I guess the biggest question for all the grass experts is if they redo it which sounds like it's due for that will it be able to be maintained and be a quality surface late in the year.

I am sure the field managers will do everything in their power to fix it. If you are still un satisfied call the AD. The people in charge their have busted their ass all year. By all means keep ********.
Whos ********? I was asking questions. Actually the exact opposite of ********. The only thing I am ******** about are posters that seem to not read what I wrote, which is what you have just seemed to do. The post you are referring to there was not one part that was ********? So uh???

His name is CyCrazy after all.

I've followed your every post in this thread and am mystified how crazy had that take... I have the same questions as you and luckily I've come through these threads (so far) unscathed.

Interesting research.....it's and odd mix for sure of those that are left with natural. Okla, TCU can be explained away as sticking with natural possibly by being further south. But...the others like purdue etc....not sure what it means..... lots of studies have been done on safety of natural vs. artificial.....if the purdues of the world are keeping it, maybe it is as another poster mentioned earlier that it is the base soils that are the problem and that redoing the turf will take care of the issue.

They have two grass practice fields. One immediately outside the football complex and one across the street next to G7.

Correct, but the one across the street is only used during fall camp and even then it's rarely used. Also, the team mostly practices indoors once the weather gets cold. And by mostly I mean like 90% of the time.
I swear they were practicing on the field when I in Ames in the fall a couple years ago, the same day that Campos broke his leg. I was at the Rieman Gardens.

That happened at a scrimmage in the Jack. Fall camp and spring practice they usually practice throughout the week and then scrimmage inside the Jack on Saturdays. Other than that they never practice on the game field

Field needs changing.. it’s terrible the last month..

Wts.. I’m excited to see Monty and Butler on turf in Alamo bowl if we make it.

As well as Purdy back to throwing with no cold or crazy wind

I loved our turf in years past, but this is the final straw.

For a game that didn't mean anything, or didn't matter---it was the biggest mistake in memory

Injuries, embarrassing score, ridiculous and pathetic field conditions. Pundits called it almost 'one of the biggest upsets in College fb history'.

Good gawd....no redeeming qualities about this game on DEC 1......Zero benefits

Put in TURF, and never have a repeat of this---ever again. This game was a 'loss' in my mind

We have an $80 million athletic budget. The conditions were atrocious. No excuse

What pundits? No one paid one ounce of attention to this game nationally.

We're out there online because we're ranked...and a lot of people read the wonderful recap below from CBSSports.com..

.Some of the highlights in BOLD below from their write-up. Great stuff!!!

No. 24 Iowa State barely survives, beats FCS Drake 27-24
  • STATS AP
  • Dec 01, 2018
AMES, Iowa (AP) Iowa State insisted on playing 12 games, cycling through a pair of FCS opponents before settling on tiny Drake.

That decision nearly resulted in the most embarrassing loss in school history.

David Montgomery ran for 145 yards and two touchdowns and No. 24 Iowa State survived a near-upset by the non-scholarship Bulldogs on Saturday, winning 27-24.

Brock Purdy had 153 yards passing and a TD and ran for another score for the Cyclones (8-4), who fought through persistent rain and a muddy, torn-up field for their seventh win in eight games.

It hardly felt like a victory, though, against a team that agreed to play this makeup game only two weeks ago, and Iowa State coach Matt Campbell blamed the close call on execution instead of effort.

THE TAKEAWAY

IOWA STATE..... It was so muddy that Iowa State's band wasn't allowed to perform at halftime. Still, the Cyclones looked uninspired at best - and it might have made them less desirable when bowls make their picks on Sunday.

POLL IMPLICATIONS

It's hard to believe Iowa State is one of the 25 best teams in America after that debacle.

HOW IT HAPPENED

''The field, it was awful,'' Iowa State receiver Hakeem Butler said.

If it's not coaching or execution, then it must be.

Drake offensive coaches had a great game plan. They went up the middle....They went vertical with some midrange passes. It was open all day. Their players were quoted after the game---they watched film on ISU.

ISU apparently didn't watch film on Drake. We ran dumb stretch plays and sweeps, and slipped all over the place. You don't slide around running in a straight line

DRAKE outgained ISU in yardage... Astounding.

It was either coaching, or the freaking awful field conditions--or both.

It’s cute that you guys think bowls care about anything other than how well fans travel. The lack of fans at the game probably hurt our chances more (it didn’t) at a better bowl than our performance.
