The Flip video cameras are pretty slick. I have one, we have a half-dozen plus in our department. Use them for all sorts of short video clips, including shooting footage, interviews, etc. for use with webcast and on-line instruction. Comes with the video software on the camera, plugs into your computer thru USB port (which doubles as the battery charger). Uses a proprietary video format, but once you download the video, it opens right up in Windows Media Player (and I assume several others). Also in the box is a set of cables to plug into a monitor or TV for playback from the camera.
Might take some compressing if you're doing lots of web stuff, I leave that to our real tech folks. Absolutely no learning curve. Honestly, the whole instruction manual is about the size of an index card. Very intuitive. Ready to go out of the box. Fits in your pocket, not much bigger than most cell phones. I'm real impressed with the video quality. Audio - mic is built into the camera, so if you're very far away, you will have some trouble picking up audio.
Basic controls, not a lot of zoom capability, but very good for most day to day things, especially inside stuff. I know one "grandma" who got one for her daughter just so the daughter could take baby photos and post to the baby blog and/or send to grandma. (No, not in my family!) Price is right. Go for the "Mino" version. Will hold up to 60 minutes of video. Fun little useful gadget.
