Beth Mowins is the play by play person.

Geeze I can't stand her accent. The only man I can think of who has had a thick accent (though not as disagreeable as Beth's) is Dandy Don Meredith. But Dandy Don had character. Beth is like a pair of brown socks.

Anyhow, I just can't understand how ESPN has kept her all these years. I guess they need someone to work cheap? And I'm not saying that she doesn't know her stuff with respect to football and broadcasting, but it seems to me like they could easily reassign her so that her nails scratching on a chalkboard accent doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the game.

Just my opinion, obviously.

I don't pick up on any accent. She's not great but it's not because of any accent IMO. Just very vanilla.

You're confusing tone with accent.

I don't mind Beth Mowins. She does a nice job. I think she'd come off a lot better if they'd ever put her with a decent analyst.

Agree that it isn't an accent. What I think it is, and many female broadcasters do this, is that they are trying to sound like a man. Women's basketball announcers are the worst.

Whoever the woman was in the booth during ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball was brutal.

Do you mean Olympic gold medalist Jessica Mendoza? Maybe insecure folks like yourself had an issue with a woman in the booth but she got great reviews. I personally thought it was great to have her broadcasting, because she earned that spot based on what she did in the field and translating that experience into great analysis during ESPN's softball broadcast. She's there because of what she did, not because of how pretty she is.

Agree 100 with OP. I'm glad I was at the game and didn't have to listen to it live. Would have ruined the excitement of the moment.

I'm sure she knows her stuff and obviously she is very talented, but personally when I watched I thought it was strange and seemed forced. ESPN is always trying to shove too many people in the broadcast booth and I'd rather hear from someone who actually played Major League Baseball as a color commentator.

Mendoza struggled as a sideline reporter, but she was excellent as an analyst in the booth. Mowins isn't my favorite, but I didn't catch any accent or trying to sound like a man. How are women commentators trying to sound like men? And why would they do that?

Oh, that's the one we're talking about? I remember that game and that accent (yes, that's an accent folks). I wanted to jam pencils in my ears to deafen myself just so I wouldn't have to listen to her hatchet the english language.

*Edit: Looked up her bio...yep, it's that great lakes accent with harrrd arrrs. Grew up in Syracuse, now lives in Saginaw, Michigan.

Not a fan of female commentators for Football or MBB. Especially, the ones who have masculine voices.

This is a network that has employed **** Vitale for 35 years and I believe has him under contract through his 144th birthday. I don't know how anyone could be surprised by their crappy staffing decisions.

She'll never be my favorite but I'm mostly indifferent to her. I know she had that one game of ours this year but doesn't she usually have an 11:00 am BIG game...like Purdue vs. Indiana or something? I think the TCU game this year is the only game I've actually wanted to watch that she's had.

I think it's great that she's there. I only watched like one Sunday night game this year, so I don't have a large sample size to make more of an educated opinion on her broadcasting skills. I agree she probably knows her stuff and agree that it did seem forced and I only said it was brutal because it didn't seem like she was contributing much. If it was just her as a color commentator, instead of 3, maybe it would be better.

I have no problem with women announcing men's sports, but we all have our opinions about that various announcers out there.
