I don't get it, Routh was Superman, not a villain. Wait a minute, he is from Des Moines and attended Iowa, so maybe he is considered a villain.
I can see why he is villain for attending Iowa, but if you are saying he is a villain because he is from Des Moines, I'll have your kneecaps broken.

I think a big problem a lot of us old school Superman fans had as well was the fact that Superman was essentially a deadbeat dad in Returns.

Besides, as Brodie pointed out in Mallrats, there is no way Kal-El could give Lois a baby. It's mathmatically impossible.

When Jr. was conceived he didn't have his powers in Superman II. He stepped into that booth and had them taken away. Then he got them back at the end of the movie. So, he was human was him and Lois hooked up. Really though, why would anybody want to get with Margot Kidder?

I dont know if this has been mentioned, but there is a new story that Mark Millar wants to tell if the studios will listen. Could be interesting but I dont know how many it would pull in to watch it.

Empire: Movie News - Exclusive: Mark Millar Talks Superman
Mark has been working closely with a 'big-Hollywood action director' – who he refuses to name at this stage – on a pitch for what he is calling the Magnum Opus of Superman stories. His idea is for an 8-hour saga, split into 3 films to be released a year apart, in a Lord of the Rings fashion.

"I want to start on Krypton, a thousand years ago, and end with Superman alone on Planet Earth, the last being left on the planet, as the yellow sun turns red and starts to supernova, and he loses his powers."

That's a great idea no doubt, but look what Lucas lost in actual story just trying to sell 50 years or so In Star Wars. And he couldn't do it in 6 movies. All acting aside, my biggest complaint with the new Star Wars films seemed like they just pulled the action scenes out of what could have been a compelling story. I think anymore Hollywood gets so wrapped up in the action that they forget to tell the story. The part that people really care about. I mean what do you skip that allows you to understand the character, yet still be at the end point you are trying to reach in 2 or 3 hours?

Oh well, I'd love to see them pull it off. It might actually get me to watch a Superman movie. I just don't have a lot of faith in Hollywood. I see it more like Transformers when they gave the snippet of where they came from. "Before time began, there was the Cube... blah blah blah." Anyways, my point is their whole purpose for being in that situation was glanced over in a 20 second speech. lol. So they could get back to the action.

The first series of superman had a TERRIBLE choice for Lois. Kate Bosworth on the other hand is a nice look. However, I think Erica Durance from Smallville is a perfect choice. Her appearance fits the character well.

I agree, but studios know that 75 percent of their tickets sales are people who dont give a rip about stories and just want mindless action.

I have so many things to say in this thread. I don't know where to begin.

I'll start with Bale. He lost like 50 lbs for the machinist and then had like 1 month to put the wait back on for BB. Empire of the Sun rocks as well as American Psycho and don't forget Equilibrium was a pretty cool film as well. A little different but an interesting one. I think he would've been huge in Hollywood in only a matter of time, Batman only propelled him up faster.

As far as Routh goes, everything I hear about him isn't good. I've heard from multiple people that he's not a very nice good. Not from personal knowledge, but just what I've heard. Not surprised that they would replace him.

As far as the movie goes, they had some of the coolest scenes I've ever seen but the movie failed in the end. The Plane scene when he returns is awesome and I still get chills with the scene of him overlooking the earth in space and him listening to all the sounds. Nothing so short and quick can encompass the powers that he has.

I always liked Kevin Smith's ******. Read it if you haven't already.

Link? I thought he wanted to direct a Superman movie, but I didn't know he'd said anything about it.

I think this is it. He wanted to do a Doomsday scenario like the one that played out in Superman #75. Yeah, I'm a geek but most every comic book fan knows that issue.

It was supposed to be the death and resurrection of Superman. In last month's Wizard magazine he was quoted saying that he'd never touch the superhero movie after seeing Iron Man and The Dark Knight. He's also seen the Watchmen and said that it raises the bar even higher. It stays pretty true to the book.

Anyway, he submitted this to WB. They sent it back w/ suggestions and rewrites. He told them to forget it. I think this is the one.

Routh is a nice kid.. I don't happen to think he's star material, but he is a nice kid.. I think one major reason he's getting replaced is because his latest movie role he chose is to play the boyfriend of a gay porn star.. Superman is an icon and they're not going to allow superman to take roles like that.. you're superman everywhere you go once you take that role.. he happens to be very left politically and that gets him in trouble with thinking this gay porn role would be a good idea.

Really? I thought that lifestyle pretty much summed up Superman.

Ambiguously gay superman??

Anyway, this news sucks. BJ is a great guy and at least around people he knows, very down to earth. I guess I cant speak to dealing with him professionally. I actually only watched because he was in it and probably wont if he isnt. Hopefully he finds some other roles and continues to make a career out of acting.
