For now, he is staying. It will be interesting to see how the arbitration figures come out. The Pirates were shopping for a SS and both the Twins and Rays didn't want anyone but Joel, so those talks broke down. From what I have heard, the Rangers are hard after him so they can move Neftali to the starting rotation and just about everyone in the AL East wants him too. Personally, I would be surprised to see him still with the Pirates past the trade deadline this year.

Well Twins traded Hardy, too bad they couldn't work something out. I really like Joel as a pitcher and would like to see him on a winning team.

If the Red Sox can stay healthy and Papelbon gets his groove back, the Sox will be the team to beat. Beckett, Lackey, Lester and Clay B. could all win between 15-20 games with that lineup giving them run support

While both are great players, are also replacing Beltre and V-Mart who both had big years. So while it is an upgrade in the long run it doesn't exactly instantly boost them anywhere. Their pitching needs to step it up this year(minus Lester and Buckholtz). Their offense will be good but it will all depend on the pitching.

Ellsbury was out for a large portion of 2010 with broken ribs and both Youkilis and Pedroia spent weeks-months on the DL. Beckett, Lackey, and Papelbon had dissapointing years, but injuries also played a major role.

This. The Sox were decimated by injuries last year and still won 89 games in baseball's toughest division. If they're firing on all cylinders this year, watch out

My question is, what is all this going to do for Pujols? He's younger than both Crawford and Werth. 10 years, $300 mil was the number that was being tossed around before this offseason. These guys are both very good ball players, but they're not in the same tier as Pujols. The Cardinals' front office has to be crapping their pants.

No he's not

Royals signed Melky Cabrera AND Jeff Francouer. Watch out for those sub .350 OBP guys, Dayton Moore loves Em!!
We do have the number one minors in baseball, so things might get better, especially with the return we are gonna get for Zack.
(and the first person that goes, but they are going to trade all there good players is gonna get an internet punch to the groin. The Royals re-signed Greinke and Soria, who are the only people worth keeping and are working on a long term deal with Butler)
Building the minors is the way the A's and Twins stay good. Royals are taking that approach.

Are there any talks for the Cards moving Brendan Ryan to the Pirates with Joel involved? It seems the Cards have given up on Ryan in favor of......Ryan.....Theriot......ugh. Excuse me, just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Anyway, Ryan could bring GG caliber defense to a premier position, but obviously his bat is a major concern. I'd be interested to know what his trade value is and how much more the Cards would have to put on the table to get an arm like Joel that could step in as Frankin's replacement in the future. The Cards have a lot of arms in the pen already so maybe it's not even a consideration.

Yup. Good catch. Younger than Werth, but older than Crawford.

Who really knows? Dominican birth certificates are not undertaken with great care. I'm not saying he's 42 or anything, but he could suspiciously get a year or two older like Tejada and Soriano did.

I think Danny Almante is like 45 years old now.

Pirates are trying to get Ryan from what I have heard, but it will take alot more than just him to get Joel in the return, especially when the Pirates turned down straight up deals for Hardy and Bartlett.
