Always enjoyed his cameo on the Simpsons. I wouldn't be shocked if the script didn't have any lines on it, and just said "Bob Newhart does his thing". There was nobody else like him.

The 1971 movie, Cold Turkey, which Newhart appeared in was filmed in Greenfield and Winterset.

That film was produced by Norman Lear. When Lear was in Iowa he was working on developing a t.v. show that he didn't think would "play in Peoria" as the saying goes. After coming to Iowa and seeing Iowans doing anything they could to be of help and with the ability to laugh at themselves Lear thought to himself maybe this t.v. show I'm working on could work. That t.v. show was All In The Family.

I still know Jim Fees. Great guy. You lived on Dana Haus too?
Yes, I lived on Dana Haus. This is Chuck. I did my house award one time based on Fees getting drunk and blowing chunks at Granddaddy's. I wrote a song, set to the tune of the Gambler, which was popular back then, to commemorate that epic event.

I sure wish I knew who you were. I can't remember half my roommates. I'm 70 years old now and never was very good with names, and age doesn't help any with that. Is this Cranston?
