Just a data point...

I have a 50" plasma. I've been over at friends' houses who have relatively new large LCDs (Samsung, Panasonic, and Vizio). These are supposed to be higher end sets according to the owners.

One thing that drives me nuts about these sets is the terrible representation of human (Caucasian in particular) skin, at viewing distance. The people look like mannequins. There is practically no definition of skin features (lines, variation of skin color, etc). It looks creepy. I was over at a watch party for TT/OU this weekend, and the shots of Musberger/Herbstreit were really bad (this was the Panasonic). I wanted to grab the remote and get into setup mode to see if there was something I could do to fix the problem (which would have probably been rude). I've noticed the same thing in stores too.

I have a 17" LCD at my PC and my laptop display is LCD, and I don't notice this problem, but it might be because I'm usually up close when viewing those.

Maybe these people just have their LCDs adjusted improperly, but it's been 3 out of 3 so far. Given what I've seen up to this point, I would NEVER trade my big plasma for an LCD.

Can't say I've ever had those kinds of problems with my 42" Samsung LCD, but then again, what looks normal to the rest of us might look like a mannequin to you...

No Musberger actually looks like that...

I have an LCD and I often can't adjust the settings to get the picture to look the way I want, depending on the video feed. I've been thinking of a big plasma, but I'm thinking to wait until the after Christmas sales.
