Umm, while I may not think he is the best, he did hold the Big12 mostly together, and kept ISU in a power conference. While not perfect, he helped us more than he hurt us, at least as far as I know.

My issue w/ this is Beebe just doesn't seem to be a good communicator. I think he has a good message but lacks the skill to deliver it and influence the members of the league. Someone in his position should have solid communication skills and be able to rally the troops.

Did Beebe do all that much? He came out with a last second promise of a richer TV deal, but he was completely outmanuevered by the Big Ten & Pac 10 in the months leading up to the near-implosion. A good commissioner wouldn't have let things get as far out of hand as they did. This is the Big XII, which a few years ago was considered one of the strongest leagues in the country. It isn't the MAC or the WAC, which are ripe for cherry picking from other conferences.

And it's my understanding that it was the efforts of Pollard and the AD's of the other "forgotten" schools that had a lot to do with saving the Big XII.

The Pac-10 and Big Ten wanted superconferences. They didn't get them. Scoreboard is on Beebe's side right now...

A good commissioner wouldn't have let things get as far out of hand as they did. This is the Big XII, which a few years ago was considered one of the strongest leagues in the country.

Tom Osborne wanted out of the Big 12. There was nothing Beebe or anybody else was going to do to change that.

The Big 12 is in the process of negotiating the TV contracts. Changing commissioners now would likely disrupt that process, and cause concern on the part of the networks. The only reason to change commissioners now would be if the university presidents thought Beebe couldn't handle the TV contract negotiation, or if he was was generally doing a poor job. Otherwise, it makes sense to stay with him until after the contracts are in place.

As another poster mentioned, my primary issue with him is his public speaking, which is often not stellar. Otherwise, he is not in a position of great power. The university presidents dictate the direction for the important policy issues facing the conference.

I'm not sure how things improve by getting rid of him (which obviously isn't an option).

jbh sums up Beebe's position really well. He's not exactly in a position to act as a dictator for anything. He's in a spot where that isn't going to happen, but he did negotiate his way through an impossible explosion this summer.

Here is what Bebe can do to make me like him.

Get a new TV contract set. ISU gets 15 Million per year which gives us 5-6 more million a year to play with.

The TV contract involves every game being on TV and doesn't involve having 50 threads on CF about what channel the game is on...if a certain provider carries it...HD....or how to hookup my laptop and internet feed to my TV.

I would like to see BYU and another team brought in and have 2 divisions with naming rights for a couple million.
Move OU and OSU to the North and New teams to the south. (Or there is 20 other ways to divide up) I really like the idea of a 12 team conference, BUT I am not sure we can get the $$$ per school this way.
And Lastly...
Communication and better treatment of schools.
That is all.

I think there is a new respect among the remaining 10 members. I've never been a Beebe fan, but I don't see any advantage to getting rid of him right now.

I'd love to see Beebe find a way to convince the Fox Network to become a player in college football.

I'd love to see Beebe find a way to convince the Fox Network to become a player in college football.

I'd also like to see NBC Universal get more involved in CFB.

FOX is out of CFB after this year, as the BCS goes to cable-only on ESPN (which I think will prove to be a mistake, but time will tell), unless they have a few non-BCS bowls lined up. The question for FOX would be, can they go up against ABC/ESPN and CBS and get market share at 2:30 PM and 7:00 PM on Saturday. Where do they get the games to do this? Who do they convince to abandon ABC/ESPN and go with FOX/FSN?
