It's wierd because I doubt there will be very many years when the two conference champions end up playing against each other in this bowl. The odds are that for any given year at least one of the two champions, and most likely both of them, will be among the top four top ranked teams who will complete in the championship playoffs.

Exactly. Nothing really to get excited about.

I suppose if the two champs did meet it would be considered a down year...

In the event that the champion is in the playoffs, wouldn't the runner-up be included similar to the rose bowl?

What? This is something to get very excited about. This isn't about the game itself but the relationship that the SEC and Big XII have made. There are clearly 4 top tier conferences now and the Big XII is one of them.

It appears so. My question is how does this affect the Big 12's at-large bowl bids. Scenario: Conf. champ is included in playoff so runner-up goes to Big 12 / SEC bowl game. Does that mean the other eligible teams move up in the "order" for the remaining bowls?

Is there still going to be BCS bowls with a move to a playoff or will we go back to the pre BCS days?

Bargaining chip with the Big 10 and Pac 12 in the current BSC negotiations!

I am sure it is no conincedence that they say it is going to be played in prime time on New Year's Day.

Smart move, and will mean more money to the Big 12.

I would be shocked if this game isn't at JerryWorld, considering his ties to both conferences, the fact that he hasn't had a BCS bowl yet, and that the state of Texas is the only Big 12/SEC overlap (for now... FL and SC soon to join that list )

Anyone know any easy way to see how many bowls current Big 12 and SEC teams have played. Seems like it should be a lot. Big games that decided national championships?

It's kind of a tradition that seems like it should have been locked in the day the Big 12 was formed with Big Eight Orange Bowl history and SWC geographic proximity.

And we all know the kick was good...another game in the life of a Clone fan.

Karma came around for us on that one against OK State.

Now we just need the following to check off the karma revenge list :)
1. A razor close game tying TD where we dive in the air for the pylon
2. A double foul to advance us to a Final Four
3. Score a 3 pointer during a dead ball or halftime.

Obviously they become much less likely as you go from 1 to 3.

How will this affect other bowl games/pecking order?

1st time will not be til after 2014 season. So you can assume the B12 #1 goes to the playoffs. The rest of the bowls depend on what B12 membership looks like. If you go 14+ teams with Eastern powerhouses, it's possible you could see something like

#2 New Bowl game (Sugar Bowl?)
#3 Cotton Bowl
#4 Fiesta Bowl
#5 Orange Bowl
#6 Alamo Bowl
#7 Holiday Bowl
#8 Insight Bowl
#9 Houston Bowl
#10 Pinstripe Bowl
