The media has created the 16 team league hype because it makes a playoff easier. You would basically have two 8 team leagues, then a conference championship, with the four champions squaring off and you have a make shift 8 team playoff... I see it the other way though, I think the stronger half would leave the weaker half of the conference rather than pay their bills... If the SEC goes to 14 adding Mizzu and A&M, then Auburn and Alabama will likely move East with Vandy moving West. That puts almost all the power in the East aside from LSU. I am sure some of those schools are sick of paying bills for Arkansas, Vandy and the two Mississippi schools so whats from stopping them to breaking off on their own?

The problem is in the move to 4x16, people make moves and you end up with something closer to 5x16.

We don't need conf expansion for playoffs. 5 or 6 AQ teams, 2 or 3 at large.

An 8 team playoff adds THREE games total, just 3 games played by only 4 teams out of 120. It would be so easy. Since they've already singled out 4 Bowls as better than the rest there is your first round.

Where do some of you people come up with your info?

The B12 would stay at 9 or fold before adding any of the following:

Tulsa, Temple, Troy, or UAB

As long as UT and OU are on board, it sounds like TCU and Houston are out as well.

Memphis would only be a possibility if the forgotten 5/4 were adding teams to keep the conference.

Really enjoy how message board posters feel that they know more than media members actually talking to people involved in the situation.

Andy Katz: Hey buddy, so what is the latest word on which conference Oklahoma is going to choose?
12 year old Oklahoma ball boy: Well Mr. Katz, I don't really know.
Andy Katz: Gotta guess?
12 year old Oklahoma ball boy: I think Pac 12. Oregon has really cool uniforms and I always liked them.

20 minutes later on the ESPN ticker: Andy Katz reporting source at Oklahoma has told him that Oklahoma will be leaving the Big XII immediately to join the Pac 12.

The credibility of these "sources" is suspect at best. Do these writers reveal who their sources are? Not usually so their sources could be their neighbors wife, the mailman, Marty's dentist, some drunk guy at the local bar, etc.... The accuracy of all of these reports out there throughout the entire conference realignment mess have been awful yet "sources" have been claimed for each and every one of them.

If you were a school being courted by the Big 12 wouldn't you think twice before joining the league? I think there are still serious concerns about long term stability in the conference.

The Big 12 even calling Arkansas to ask, which it did, is just asinine. Makes you question WTH they are thinking. Realistic targets is step one.

They were probably thinking... well, it doesn't hurt to ask, all you are out is a few minutes of your time if they say they have no interest. Plenty to gain, nothing to lose.

I would question WTH they are thinking if they didn't at least put a few feelers out there to higher quality targets like Arkansas.

Vortex, I agree there are stability issues but those will go away if the league signs away the rights to their games for a long enough period.

Also, unless they try and get BYU or Big EAst teams they are used to making 3-4 million a year in tv revenue.

Also, I would say the Big 12 looks a lot more stable than the Big East at this point.
