I'm making my first trip to the Big 12 tourney this year with a few friends. Does anyone have recommendations for where to stay in KC? Is there a "Cyclone" hotel that a lot of fans stay at?

Something within walking distance of the Sprint Center would be nice, but is not crucial.

The team stayed at the Westin Crowne Plaza last time I was there.. along with OSU and Nebraska.

Not sure where they will be this year.

Its a bit of a walk, but not that bad.

The Westin Crown Center is fantastic. Cab ride is three minutes from the hotel. A ton of shopping, Union Station, and Jack Stack BBQ is right there.

I just booked today on Hotwire. 106 bucks (which I thought was going to be the Westin) but got put into the Sheraton at Crowne Plaza which is right next to it.

Last year booking on hotwire gave us the Westin

EDIT>.. it was the 4 star choice

Thanks for the Hotwire tip - that looks to be significantly cheaper than the rates I was seeing on Expedia. Just out of curiousity, how long will you be down there? We are thinking of driving down Thursday, spending two nights regardless of outcome, then driving back Saturday. Although it would be nice to worry about the championship game on Saturday night...

Go to hoteldealsrevealed.com and do a search for hotels on downtown KC. This will tell you the hotels Priceline and Hotwire use. Then go to their site and start the booking process. I've scored several good deals using priceline and hotwire.

I've booked the Marriott Downtown on Marriott points! I'm going to assume we don't end up 7-10th, as I only booked Thurs, Fri, & Sat nights!

If we don't play through the weekend, that's ok, I still love K.C! We'll have a good time!

Does anyone know if you go on and do a Name Your Price on Priceline can you cancel nights if you need to?? I would like to book Thurs-Sun but what happens if we would happen to get beat out early (sorry had to think of that)?? Can you cancel a night?

You typically have to give a 48-72 hours notice to a hotel irregardless of how you booked it. You won't be able to cancel anyway since we won't know if we have lost out until Thursday evening. Just stay in KC and have a good time. It is a fun city with plenty of activities to keep you busy for 3 days.

You'll have to check the policies on priceline, but my understanding is that you can't cancel. That's the trade-off for getting a good price.

You could buy travel insurance, but somehow I don't think "lost in first round of tournament" is an insured event.

Have stayed at Hotel Phillips a few times in the past, walking distance to Sprint Center and the P&L District. I'm guessing anything close to the Sprint Center is probably booked by now or anything that is left is going to run you over $200 a night by now. When I have gone have always booked the room in the fall before people start thinking about making plans.

You CANNOT cancel on Priceline. Once you submit your bid, if your price is accepted your credit card is charged immediately.

We did Priceline and bid $89 a night and got into the Westin Crowne Plaza. It's a great deal if you can make the commitment to be down there the whole weekend, win or lose for ISU.
