That is definitely an outlier. I read hints that some of their higher profile hires, Tommy Tubberville and Tubby Smith, left in part due to their spouses failing to make the adjustment to west Texas living. I've never been there, but I assume that understates what those coaches were facing on the home front. Is it possible they need to overpay in order to keep a lid on turnover?

Having lived in West Texas (San Angelo) and not made $1.4 million I can say West Texas isn't great. That said, I am not sure how stupid amounts of money would have made a difference. Unless you enjoy being around a bunch of kids most events there are horrible. There aren't great concert venues. The random BBQ cookout competitions are interesting. Then there's hunting. Heck, there aren't even good roads to bike on. It was a very boring 3 years of my life.
