lately our current router has been unable to provide a good signal to devices on other floors in the house. Next week we will be moving to a much bigger house in an area that offers google fiber. Looking for recommendations of routers, extenders, ect. TIA

I wouldn't buy an extender until you decide if it's really needed.

I've been happy with my Asus RT-AC68U but it may be overkill for some people. I like to have two wi-fi signals going. One for my products that support AC and one that doesn't. An optional guest wi-fi would also be available with this router,

I have Google Fiber, and there is a wireless router built into the main network box. In addition, all of the TV boxes can act as wireless hot spots if needed to boost signal. It is fast, the signal has been great, and it is easy to manage. If you are going Fiber, you may want to wait and see before spending the cash on your own router.

I didn't realize the tv boxes acted as hotspots. That's awesome. Thanks!!

How do you like GF? Does it make a noticeable difference?

I'm very happy with it so far. I'm typically connected via Wi-Fi, so I mostly top out in the 300s as opposed to the full gig.

Also of note, assuming your are running the TV boxes over coax, each receiver also has an ethernet port if you need a wired connection, though those are capped at 100.

Lots of great setup options with it. Typically the only limitations you run into are choke points from a serving website.

I'm married, so I don't have a GF any longer. Can only assume it would make a noticeable difference right now.

I made my wired router wireless by cutting the cord off of it. My internet signal is awful though.

You forgot to setup your Tesla coils to power it. Kinda affects the wireless signal, but it's the only way to get rely wireless routers.

No. You just have to replace the bulbs with CFL bulbs. Your router is just telling you it wants to be more energy efficient.

I make it run on a water-powered generator. I don't have a running stream or river, so I just always run the bathroom sink tap to supply the running water to power it. It's environmentally friendly that way.

I've gone solar, so I can only use mine in the daytime.

Not exactly sure.

Mine is powered by a generator I crank, takes care of the night issue. Only problem is I can have to crank with one hand and type with the other. My right arm is pretty strong though
