I've never tried it but I'd like to. Any favorites?

Taste of Thailand?

For some reason, I've found the dirtier, more out of the way the place is, the better the food is when it comes to these ethnic foods. There's a place in my town that serves Vietnamese food that you would never in a million years think of patronizing because it looks pretty rough. It's in an old gas station and I don't think they quite cleaned up all the grease spots yet. But the food is out of this world. They also give you free hot tea when you come in, even if you are just getting a to-go order. They have one of the most extensive menus I've ever seen for such a hole-in-the wall, small place. Their Vietnamese-style sandwiches alone take up about half a page of the menu. Very good, too.

There are several places in this town like that, even some Thai places. Those big, fancy oriental restaurants with the giant buffets don't hold a candle to some of these mom and pop stores. And there must be about 10 "pho" (Vietnamese soup) restaurants in my town. We also have Mexican, South American and even one Indian mom and pop joint, in this town. There's a more upscale place that serves Cuban food.

Since we were downtown we ended up going to Taste of Thailand. I thought it was very good. I like hot food but damn. I ordered a meal and asked for #3 on the 1-5 hot scale and my mouth burned for about an hour after words.

Where did you eat? Taste of Thailand hasn’t been open for at least 4 or 5 years. After it closed, a place call Ban Thai was there for a few years. Tried it once, it was good. I know there is a new place there now. Did they reclaim the Taste of Thailand name?

This is far from my favorite genre of restaurant, so I’ll could be off a bit on this. I’m just a bit confused because I don’t think Taste of Thailand has existed for a number of years.
