Best restaurant for kid's Birthday Party in Ames

My in-laws are hosting the family in Ames for a birthday lunch in honor of my soon-to-be 8 yr old son. Any suggestion on location? Was thinking the new Italian place Tutto Bene, but have seen a lot of poor reviews.

Need a place that is moderately priced with good food and service. Not looking for a cookie-cutter chain place.

Tutto Bene is closed now (it was pretty awful). It's a Mexican restaurant now - I don't remember the name of it.

Hickory Park is obviously a huge kid pleaser, but it will be hard to hear each other - but, hey, free ice cream, so it's your call. Does your son like any particular type of food?

If he likes Italian food, GeAngelo's in the Northern Lights plaza is quiet - it was pretty good last time I went there. Battles is good barbecue, but not probably the easiest environment for a birthday party. Wallaby's has a party room, and I bet Cafe Northwest could accomodate a group pretty easily...

Happy Joe's, I cannot count how many birthday parties I attended there when I was growing up in Ames. They have a few arcade video games, ski-ball, whack-a-mole equivalent and a small carousel. They do a free ice-cream thing as well and have a seperate party area. For young kids it really can't go wrong.
