Meeting friends in Ames this Friday afternoon. Have been to several bars, wondered if I've missed some good watering holes. We want respectable, but reasonable prices wine and beer. Any help?

I like West Towne Pub. I think they spell the town with an "e" at the end.

When I meet friends in Ames we usually just pick up some 40's of Old English or Steel Reserve at Cub Foods and hang out in the parking lot drinking them.

Or, West Towne Pub and Dublin Bay are good. I also like Olde Main Brewing downtown.

If you want a large selection of tap beers from the US check out DG's Taphouse on Main St. It's located right about The Corner Pocket and has about 70 "rarer" beers on tap. Not many people know about it, but I like it. They have Rogue and Point and Bell's on tap.......mmmmmm

Olde Main brews their own in-house and usually has something seasonal. Their "Dinkey" and "Longface" are also sold retail.

That is where I go every time I am in town(e), anywhere I get a Bell's on tap is fine with me.

Seattle Clone, I got a question. If you guys know so much about women, how come you're here at like the Gas 'n' Sip on a Saturday night completely alone drinking beers with no women anywhere?

If you don't mind going one place from 5-7 and another after that, start the night in a "civil" manner with 1/2 price drinks at the Gateway. They're strong and cheap. You do, however, have to put up with some people who just like to sit and talk and listen to the light music.
