How about Felix & Oscars? I've had their cheese topper and really liked it but didn't realize they had a taco. Not that familiar with Des Moines but I had a taco pizza a few years ago at a place that was relatively close to the airport. Maybe Paesano's?

I'd like to see if anyone can confirm, but I've heard that Happy Joe's was first the place to ever make a taco pizza. My inclination is they may have brought it to Iowa, rather than actually inventing the concept.

anyone know?

As to the person that like tacos, likes pizza but not taco pizza. I can kinda relate....kinda. I like taco pizza, but if I'm in the mood for pizza, taco pizza doesn't cut it because it tastes more like tacos, than pizza. Make sense?

What's sad is people in Michigan get this dumb look and say "what the hell are you talking about?" if you bring up taco pizza

or i could do my own legwork:

Happy Joe's claims to be the first pizza restaurant to offer a taco pizza (a pizza with refried bean/tomato sauce, cheese, lettuce, tomato and taco chips). After a franchisee suggested adding tacos to the menu, Whitty invented the restaurant's best-selling product, the Taco Pizza. [1]

Happy Joe's! If they are not around, there is a chain of lakeside restaurant in Northern Minnesota called Zorbaz. The rest of their food is so-so. The taco pizza is outstanding.

I really miss happy joes. Big Mac, Canadian Bacon Sauerkraut, taco, nacho....one opened by us in Rockford, IL, but it closed. The problem with Happy Joes, it is just so friggin expensive/overpriced compared to the competition. Hard to spend $25 on one pizza.

The Nacho Joe from Happy Joes. Freaking delicious.

Was just going to post this...

Instead of the refried beans/pizza sauce they use nacho cheese...sooooooo good.

If you like the taco you'll love the nacho.

I've traveled to most of the US and go out of my way to try pizza everywhere I go. I'm pretty certain Iowa is the epicenter of the phenomenon known as "taco pizza".

Someone needs to make one with lettuce and chips on the side for better reheating. McDLT style!
