Looking to watch the mens game with friends and family this friday at a local establishment. Any recommendations for bars or Cyclone focused bars to hang out in the Des Moines area this Friday.

Thx

I don’t go anywhere anymore so I have no advice, but this post reminded me of the good ole days when my buddies and I used to take the first Friday of the tournament off and go to 3 Bag and get absolutely **** hammered watching basketball all day, then get one of our wives to come get us like a carpool at the end the night. $300 at the McDonald’s drive thru and 5 stops later, the selected wife would be none too happy.

I would venture to guess there are close to 100 bars in the Des Moines metro area.
“Cyclones Bars” as in walking into it you can just see it’s a Cyclone Bar=0
Whiskey River is atleast owned by a Cyclone supporter as is Uptown in Ankeny but that’s more a restaurant.
Most bars are neutral or pro Hawkeye unfortunately.
No one is willing to go all in on the Cyclones.

Beyond Whiskey River as that has been recommended, which one do you suggest as a great neutral bar in Des Moines. Thx

This is my biggest pet peeve of living in DSM metro. Thousands of Cyclone grads & ISU fans yet EVERY bar has to be "neutral" (or worse be all TavernHawk.) A 30-45 min drive from campus should mean something, especially when compared to a 2 hour away school.

The Front Row looks like Herky threw up and Hayden Fry diarrhea'd in it, but a DSM business puts up slightly more Iowa State decor to Hawkeye and DSM somehow won't allow it?

The Keg Stand was CLOSE once to being a Cyclone (mostly) bar. But now it's Westtown Tap. No clue of any ISU favoritism remains or if it's just another neutral bar.

Benchwarmers in Ankeny used to be a good Cyclone bar. Not sure anymore, haven’t been there in awhile.

For whatever reason bar owners haven’t caught up to the 50/50 fan base split. They still think it’s 1990. Really incredible how few bars are owned (probably one)by Cyclones compared to Tavern Hawks(probably 50).

On the road...
The Station is another great ISU option. By the end of the year, the newly opened Des Moines Athletic Club, downtown, will be open. The owner, Nick, is an ISU grad and buddies with Blum. Ames Lager will be available at all times!

3Bag was a fun time! Had multiple large projection screens and decent food so was a good place to watch the tourney in general. One of the nights they had a hot wings special that one of my roommates would go to most weeks then regret it the next morning after over-doing it both on the wings and drinks
