I dont remember, but it was for the Christmas party at work and I didnt see what everyone loved about it.

I get you may not prefer it, but terrible? I don't know if I've met a "terrible" pizza. Hard to mess up IMO.

My favorite is F&O's.
Zoeys is solid.
Caseys is good.

Is the Wig and Pen in Ankeny the same as the Wig and Pen in Iowa City? If it is, they have good pizza, but a stretch to call it the best. Not sure I even have a "best" pizza I guess. Maybe Pizza Pit...just because I ate so much of that crap when I was in school. Oh, and Gumby's Pizza...Pokey Stix! Mind those are both purely nostalgia driven.

In Des Moines, I like Scornavacca's, Chucks, F&O's. Georgioz in Colfax is OK. Old Chicago is the best chain restaurant pizza IMO. Big Tomato is overrated. Amazingly I still haven't gotten to Fong's. I really wish Bagni di Lucca in the East Village hadn't closed because they had awesome pizza!

Where can one get a good bacon cheeseburger pizza? I used to think they sounded gross (pickles on pizza?) but once I tried one, I am hooked.

5 pages in and no mention of Pasquale's in Humboldt? The best thin crust pizza ever! You can thank me later. Pagalais in Des Moines is 2nd for me. The Muscatine Happy Joes is amazing for a Happy Joes. I talked to the owner once and he said part of it is because they never freeze the dough like most of the other happy joes do.

For thick crust, Tomasos in Cedar Rapids is very good.

Godfather's does a really good bacon cheeseburger pizza. Papa Murphy's used to have a really excellent one - made with a marinara/ketchup/mustard sauce - but it isn't a full time menu item.

Anyone tried Jersey Guys' Pizza in Beaverdale? It's next door to Grounds for Celebration. I've been meaning to try it for a while now but I keep forgetting.

Didn't the Tomaso's close? Or sell out/change their name? At least the one on Edgewood road in the strip mall is no more.
There are still 3 Tomasos locations in CR. The original on center point is still open but I think you're right that the Edgewood location closed.

Harris' Pizza or one of its clones. But anyone living outside of the Quad Cities wouldn't know this truth.

Happy Joe's has a great taco pizza and their other specialties are very good as well. The sad thing is here in Michigan the common response is "what the hell is a taco pizza?"

Need to add Old Chicago to the list

This is an outright fail. Not that OC's pizza isn't good, but it's nowhere close to being the best pizza in Iowa. You go there to try new, different beers and the food is complementary to the beer.

Mabes in Decorah has not got enough mention in this thread - IMO it's the best although I have not had many of the others mentioned on here.

El Fredo's in Sioux City is incredible. Jerry's in Sioux City is pretty good too but I think involves some nostalgia for me liking it that much. I'd easily take El Fredo's over a lot of the hyped pizza I've had in big cities.

There's a place in Chicago called Roots that makes "Quad Cities style" pizza. People laugh when they hear the term but the place actually does solid business and has been featured on TV.

Awesome, but if I'm eating pizza in Chicago I'm going to Giordano's.

Antonella's in Davenport is the best pizza around Eastern Iowa. Harris/Franks pizza is a pile of grease, terrible.

To each his own I guess. I think that Great Plains is the best in the state. Maybe Giordonos is better.

I like Zoey's in Marion a lot. Great Plains was always good when I ate there, the Buffalo on wheat was my fav. Mabe's in Decorah is very good if you like thin pizza. PollyEyes (sp) in Iowa City is very good. There is a really good place in Fairfield, but I can't remember the name.

Surprised by the number of people that like Happy Joe's, as I always thought it was Chucky Cheese without the annoying mouse. May have to give it a try again. Casey's does a pretty good job for being a gas station. If you live near a Sam's club, you can call in and pick up a huge pizza for about $10, but your choices are limited. Their supreme is pretty good, as is the all meat.

One place that use to have horrible pizza but has really stepped up their game is Pizza Ranch. Still not close to the best, but much better than it was.

Not saying it is good, but Pizza Ranch has a bacon cheeseburger pizza. Jeff's also offers one but I didn't see pickles on it.

We like Great Plains here, but it is best hot out of the oven. Sitting out at something like a Christmas party I can see where it wouldn't be great. It isn't a good cold pizza (but I don't like cold leftover pizza). We don't even like to get it delivered because the cheese starts to set up and just isn't the same at home.

We also like Vesuvius. But I am in the camp that there isn't one "best" pizza--every one has different tastes.

I haven't tried many of the places listed here or have a favorite but haven't seen either of these places mentioned. Both are in Nevada.

-Georges,their sausage and mushroom is awesome
-Alleys, the Italian Classic is very good as is their taco
