Surprised The Jason Bourne Trilogy hasn't been mentioned. Not my favorite trilogy, but intriguing and exciting enough to get me to watch them

It's in here. :)

I loved the first Back to the Future. I was so pumped for the second one & had extremely high expectations. It was total garbage and, on top of that, they had the gall to leave it open for a 3rd one. I finally watched the 3rd one when it came out on video. I'll admit that the 3rd one was okay, but the 2nd film would make me never put that franchise on a top 10-20 trilogy list.

While not an official trilogy, I love the story arc of Star Trek II through IV (Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock, Voyage Home).

I used to hate the third Alien film, but grew to like it years after the initial theatrical release, so I would count the first three Alien films among the best also (of course, this is completely discounting Alien: Resurrection - a HORRIBLE movie which should have never been made).

That is your fault. I would not be shocked if the Dollars/Man With No Name trilogy has the highest average trilogy score on Rotten Tomatoes of all the trilogies listed so far.
Other awesome westerns from that era were Once Upon a Time in the West (classic Charles Bronson), The Magnificent Seven, and the original Django (to this day, I still think the main character dragging that coffin around town was some great imagery).

Not at the top of my list, but still a favorite of mine is "Infernal Affairs"

This is a trilogy from China and "The Departed" was actually a remake of the first film. There had been plans to make The Departed a trilogy, which would have been awfully hard given how that movie ended. The 2nd film in the Chinese trilogy is actually a prequel, and tells the story of how the two protagonists actually get recruited into the police force/mafia in the first place and how they flip-flopped their roles to serve their bosses. The final movie deals a lot with the outcome of the first film and how that weighs on the remaining characters emotionally.

Another guilty pleasure trilogy of mine is Robert Rodriguez "Mexico" trilogy

1. El Mariachi - this is a GREAT movie for those that have ever wanted to get into film making. I think Robert Rodriguez said he spent a total of $12,000 to make it.

2. Desperado - Salma Hayek and bazooka's in guitar cases

3. Once Upon a Time in Mexico - what a mess of a movie, but still fun to watch

I think the independence day trilogy will be hands down the best when it's all said and done.

It is worth noting I did really like the first one back in the day

I think Lord of the Rings is by far the best trilogy. The music, the actors, the story, everything about those movies makes you deeply care about the characters and what happens throughout the films. Original Star Wars is 2nd though.

I like your list but Hobbit and no Godfather? And I am a huge Tolkien fan, but no way Hobbit is even in the same league as The Godfather even if III doesn't quite stand up to I and II.
