One eyed Jack at West Town Pub. Burger with ham bacon and a fried egg. I think I might go get one right now.

The Skippy Burger at The Westown Pub is pretty good if you are looking for something different. My son orders it everytime while I go for a nice greasy order of the Rib Rolls.

They completely re-did the inside. Gone are the old booths with all the carvings etc. It doesn't even look like the same place....no idea wth they were thinking.

This ^ If you haven't been there in about 10 years you won't even recognize the inside anymore.

Say it ain't so! Cy's Roost was a great change of pace bar with good food when I went to school from 77-81. "Cy's Fries" hit the spot after a few hours of drinking. Met my wife there in '81.

Back in the early 70's Cy's Roost opened up a 2nd floor. I think the 2nd floor was previously apartments. They had 4 or 5 small rooms with wall to wall shag carpet. You sat on the floor and they had big pillows for your comfort. We usually got there early and were able to reserve a room for 10-12 people.

As I recall the pizza was very good at Cy's Roost. Back then Schlitz was the beer of choice, Cy's Roost had a wall decorated with Schlitz wall paper. In a few places they removed the "L" from the word Schlitz - which was very appropriate because if you drank too much Schlitz the next morning you had the beer sch*tz.

HFCS - I think they call them Rockin Rib Rolls. They are like egg rolls but the inside is BBQ pork.

Lots of the bars in my Chicago neighborhood still have big ceramic Schlitz sculptures built into the exterior of the building and a lot recently started selling it again now that it's "back".

Re: Cy's Roost, I was curious if it was completely changed inside or if people just thought the patrons had changed. It's pretty standard for 25-50 year olds to return to their college or old hangouts and think the students of the day are a bunch of stupid punks ;-)

Somthing about B-bops. Best deal ever. Lived on S. Fifth, and had a roomate's gf, that would come by to wait for the roommate, on Fridays. I didn't have class on Friday mornings, so I required lunch waiting for me when I woke up. She wasn't alowed in the apt, if she didn't bring my b-bops or it wasn't time for Jerry Springer. LOL

Best deal ever. 99 cent burgers. 99 cent fries. coupon in the paper or at the car was for by one menu item get one free. Ate for a buck o five. every single friday and at least 1 or 4 other times a week.

Nearly lived on b-bops. Wife and friends still chant b-bops, b-bops every time we pass it. Burger and fries so worth the 3 bucks now, and the 1.05 deal was a real buget pleaser. Maybe not the best, but prety darn good too.

Buck burgers at Cy's was good when the place used to not suck to. Agree w/ either of these.

I wasn't around until after Cy's remodel apparently, but I never liked that place at all. I turned 21 in '06, and I probably spent less time there than any other Campustown bar, save Element.

It's not that the atmosphere is that bad, but its poorly run. They constantly advertise and then refuse to honor specials. It was that way in college, and then about this time last year I went back for a buddy's birthday party. They had a 21 pitchers for $30 or some special like that. However, the special was over by 11. Of course, they don't tell you this when you buy the pitchers, so you never get through all your pitchers unless you have a big group that gets there early. Nothing had changed.

I don't care for the "Hickories". I find them to be very, very dry.

I'm quite upset that they got rid of the pork hickories. The pork Garbage Burger at HP was my favorite burger in Ames.

Really sad what happened to that place. I remember the first time I walked in there after it was reopened, I almost wanted to cry. And yes, they used to have some very good food there.

As someone who turned 21 right as Cy's re-opened, I can assure you that it is once again a **** hole. Minus the good food.
