Have some fresh blackberries and would like some recipes for a bourbon blackberry smash. I’ve had Noirs in Ames and they are amazing, when I try my own, not so much. Thanks!

Not sure of recipes for blackberry smash and not sure of your bar knowledge, but all those types of drinks are loaded with simple syrup. 50/50 sugar/water. Boil 1 cup of water add 1 cup of sugar, stir until dissolved.

I’m familiar with bourbon drinks, make an old fashioned frequently and make my own simple syrup. Was hoping to find a good recipe others like as a buddy and I have made a few different recipes, not quite as nice as Noirs though.

Maybe just ask Noir for their recipe?

Last year I picked up a bunch of blackberries and raspberries at the farmers market. I used some of them to make a blackberry and raspberry syrup.

The recipe I followed was 2 parts sugar, 1 part water, 1 part berries by weight. Heat it on the stove until the mixture reaches a boil and mash the berries. Once the sugar is fully dissolved, remove from heat, strain out the berry pulp and store in a bottle. It should be good for about a month in the fridge.

My go to drink with that was 2 oz bourbon, 1 oz berry syrup, 1 oz lime juice, 7-10 mint leaves. Muddle the mint, add ice and top with soda water or ginger ale.

After playing around, this is what I came up with. My wife’s not a big bourbon drinker and is a fan.
