Just a couple weeks left in the year so I think it's safe to break out the countdown lists. What were everyone's favorite albums of the year? Top five for me which I can't really decide on an order for:

The National - Boxer
Patrick Wolf - The Magic Position
The Rakes - Ten New Messages
The Apples in Stereo - New Magnetic Wonder
Tegan and Sara - The Con

I also liked Kanye West, Jens Lekman and Immaculate Machine among others. Most of those are under the radar but hopefully that won't stifle the discussion!

I really didn't buy that many CDs this year - only three that I can think of. Chevelle's Vena Sera IMO was kind of a step down from both Wonder What's Next and This Type Of Thinking... (kind of disappointed by that CD), both The White Stripes' Icky Thump and My Chemical Romance's Black Parade was more of the good stuff out of them. Still debating whether I want to pick up the new CDs Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Seether, and Evanescence. Looking forward to when Tool or A Perfect Circle comes out with a new album (IMO APC needs to step up from Emotive - I found it disappointing and rarely listen to it).

Is it bad that I've only heard of 5 of these bands/people, and have only listened to music from one of them!

I haven't been able to listen to music much in the past few months, so I don't know what's new out there, but I'll agree with jdogg on this: Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Seether, and Evanescence.

Springsteen's "Magic" (my avatar made me do it)...Magic really is one of Springsteen's best...

I would really have to agree with this. After a couple of "head scratchers" (Devils and Dust and Seeger Sessions) Bruce came back with a vengence with his best effort in over 20 years. The E Street Band has never sounded better and Bruce has written a collection of songs that rival his best work.
