Every year our base of talent improves under CMC. We beat Texas 3 years in a row. This year was bad. Overall things are good with our program.
Sure doesn’t help that they lost out on Purchase and Sadiq. This isn't fear mongering or being negative, it was analysis of the recruits.
It’s in low 30s but largely only because of Kohl. A few weeks ago I did a big comparison post. You take out that one player and this would actually be our worst class in 4 years. Very rarely does any program not get a couple Top 600 kids, let alone only 1 in the Top 700. Comparatively, we are currently 8th in the current Big 12 and would be last without Kohl. People don’t like to look at data.
I think we can have a bright future, I just have to keep pointing out that the annual hype does a disservice to what reality shows in numbers, talking to players about their concerns, and even coaches expressing concerns for given positions that this class largely doesn’t address.
As I said in the comparative post - we are and need to continue to be a developmental program. That means we need to hope a lot of those unranked recruits are diamonds in the rough and we mold them into good fundamental players.
I get what you're going for, but if you want to do a direct compare, I feel like you have to take the top recruit out of the past years as well. At that point, they probably pretty much align. That would actually be the bottom of our last 5 classes.
This is very true. Probably the second hardest evaluation after QB.WR is such a tough evaluation. We’ve brought in a lot of high ranked WR they never see the field. Do I want him to ISU? Yes. But don’t count the chickens until the eggs hatch.
Not trying to. Trying to reality check those that are hyping this class unrealistically. I think a good conversation would be why we’re struggling to recruit after the recent success, but nobody wants to discuss that because they’re fed BS about this being an amazing class.Nothing like arguing that your teams class isn’t very good.
I think Sage would of been great. Is there a 5 star recruit at freaking Colorado yet? A sh!thole program like Colorado will be doing better than us very soon. I think it’s time this staff did some crazy changes. Should have brought in TO, Jody Nelson or Chad Ochocinco lol as OC or Seneca Wallace or Sage. Someone who been in the NFL to entice these young recruits.
Yeah, right. Not trying to. Trying to reality check those that are hyping this class unrealistically. I think a good conversation would be why we’re struggling to recruit after the recent success, but nobody wants to discuss that because they’re fed BS about this being an amazing class.
Ok, what the **** other agenda would I have? What point would it do to fact check if it didn't need it? I keep hearing how amazing recruiting is going. Give me the data that backs that up. If the data doesn't show that, then let's have a convo about why after our recent success we're not doing better.Yeah, right.
I don’t know you how would I like or dislike you? But maybe your just full of crap.Ok, what the **** other agenda would I have? What point would it do to fact check if it didn't need it? I keep hearing how amazing recruiting is going. Give me the data that backs that up. If the data doesn't show that, then let's have a convo about why after our recent success we're not doing better.
That would actually be a great conversation. Is it NIL, is it recruit validation, is it the age-old struggle of being the northern outpost of the league, is it regional teams, etc? That type of discussion is the whole point of a message board.
I get it, you don't like me because I don't just **** rainbows and unicorns or talk about jumping off a bridge after a bad loss. I play the middle but when people are just pumping fake rainbows, somebody needs to bring people back to reality some how.
Like I said, Kohl is obviously a huge part of the class. There is no great way to represent what the class means without taking him out as he skews the overall average ranking so drastically. The reason I removed him to represent ranking is that if you take him out, it would better compare to prior seasons. There isn't a better way to discuss the average ranking of other recruits, unfortunately.
With Kohl, we're currently 42nd.
WITHOUT Kohl, it drops to something around 60-65.
That would actually be the bottom of our last 5 classes. 2022 was 39th. 2020 for instance was 46th. That's a huge difference and a reverse of prior trends. You would expect this class to be the best ever based on the timing of the Fiesta Bowl season.
Last year we had 9 recruits in the Top 600, this year we have 1 inside the Top 700 (Kohl).
Again, there is no great way to represent this, other than the average ranking of our recruits is drastically lower in this class vs the last 5.
And also again, I'm not being pessimistic. We're a developmental program, but the better the player to start with, in theory the higher the ceiling they have. I'm just breaking down the numbers because all I hear is that this class is a monster class - when it's really a monster QB and then lower than average in every other position.

So did you pull out the best recruit at other Big12 schools when comparing ISU to them? This isn't fear mongering or being negative, it was analysis of the recruits.

Nope, it wasn't that indepth of an analysis. So did you pull out the best recruit at other Big12 schools when comparing ISU to them?
As long as Kohl signs at ISU, he shouldn't be excluded. As you say, we are a developmental program and always will be. At least until Iowa High Schools start churning out 10-15 four & five star recruits every year.
He won a lot at Temple and Baylor. I don't like the guy but he has a track record. And this kid is from Lincoln. Not sure why any recruit would want to play for Matt Rhule.
On this board if you don't push rainbows and daisies you are a Hawk fan.Ok, what the **** other agenda would I have? What point would it do to fact check if it didn't need it?
