You are correct, there are certainly justifitable reasons to be a little worried about the recruiting class because they are as you said pretty much exclusively spring signees. But the fact is, we don't know how good or bad we'll be next year, so why not at least hope for good? It seems discombob. KNOWS ISU basketball will be bad next and in the future, and if they are decent, they'll be boring to watch and scoring under 70 points, thus making them impossible to cheer for. It's not his opinion itself that bothers me (because he has the right to it) but the way he presents it, as if it's fact, that us fans who hope GMAC can make next year a positive experience are insane or smokin' weed or something. I realize we all do it from time to time (who likes to be wrong?) but I haven't seen a post of his yet where he hasn't come off that way.

He may turn out to be right, we may suck balls next year, and he may be right on that GMAC will not recruit top notch talent. Until I see that proof here at ISU though, I'll continue to support GMAC and be impressed with what he's accomplished on such short notice.

I write this all the time, but I'll do it again. I sincerely hope that my concerns and fears are unfounded because that will mean nothing but good things for ISU basketball. Additionally, I will support the team every time McDermott (or whoever) leads them onto the court. No coach or questionable recruiting class could make me do otherwise. I will not support McDermott untill I see results however, based on my misgivings about his coaching and recruiting abilities.

You say to wait and see before being too pessimistic, but how about all the people blindly supporting McDermott do the same before bashing people who hold a different opinion.

(First of all, I don't know if you were referring to me discombob., but I am not a blind loyalish - just a guy who thinks GMAC might just be the right guy for the job, or at least is excited about a change in MBB)

You make some really good points, Melkor. Actually I am kind of in the same boat as you. I said when he was hired that I wanted to see results before I started forming some intelligent opinions, so I guess I'm basing my opinion now on the little results we seen so far - his first recruiting class and comparing things now to where I think we'd be if Wayne we still here. I just have a good feeling about these spring signees, which I know is odd. Either way the main reason why I have been replying so much to posts like discombobs. is because as much as I am bothered by "blind loyalty" sometimes, I hate blind pessimism, and that's what discombobs posts, IMO, are all about.

Keep in mind i was excited about floyd, mildly excited about LE(not the star power), thought wayne was possibly a good coach but the whole situation was butchered by the AD, and said before this process began, before anyone had mcd's name on any list, "just please God don't let it be him". guess who we got? I like the smoking weed comment, that is like dmac saying that anyone that thinks we are mediocre is smoking weed. Well, we were, so I guess RICO gets my car.

I never said he could have gotten better recruits, BUT HE COULD HAVE TRIED HARDER TO KEEP THE GUYS WE HAD, on campus and coming in. I never said anything about our recruits in particular, it is a fact however that spring recruits have a higher fail rate than that of fall ones, just the way it works. If they were ready to go, they would be going somewhere already, simple as that

Did anybody hear McDermott on Deace yesterday? He did a great job of outlining why all of those guys left. He said he really wanted to hang on to them, but pretty much everybody but Tags and Farnold were gone before he got here, and then once Wayne was gone anything that was holding them here was too.

McDermott said that he did everything he could think of to hang on to those guys. I don't know him personally but I doubt he's a liar in that instance.

I really don't care if they do great, or bomb out. I'm a cyclone. Its a lot like being a Cubs fan.....because this is my team -win/lose/whatever. I hope they win, but if not, I'm still going to cheer for them. If they win, I'm still going to cheer for them (with all the other hawk fans that switch over so they can cheer for a winning team).

Maybe because I care less about the winning/losing part, ISU hasn't had a coach that I really disliked (LE was close, because I didn't appreciate all his yelling/antics on the court).

Go CYCLONES!

Well, there's a lesson here for you Discombobed...........Since you know exactly every reason we shouldn't have hired Gmac and......Since you know exactly what he should have done to keep all the awesome NBA future prospect players that we have lost and..............Since you know exactly everything Coach Gmac is going to do wrong when he tries to coach ISU MBB and...........Since you know exactly what kind of offense and defense should be the best for all of us ignorant blind cyclone fans, you will know next time to call the AD before Gmac does to put your name in the hat to be the coach since I am sure 15 minutes with you will be all he needs to hire you on the spot so you can be our basketball coaching savior and heal all of us optimistic fans of our blindness and lead us to the Final Four...... ;)

Personally, I thought the Floyd years are pretty exciting. Nothing sucks the energy out of the crowd as much as when the opponent hits an easy bucket right when everyone is screaming for a defensive stop. If the team can actually STOP somebody, maybe the crowd will stay into the game.

Really, I was sick and tired of the WM formula: 1.Start off strong, 2.Stop scoring and lose the lead, 3.Come back to make it close before half, 4.Fall further behind after halftime, 5.Make a huge run to take the lead or get close, 6.Miss some free-throws or easy buckets and lose in the last few minutes. I honestly think that WM was by far the worst coach ISU has had since before Orr. Hilton Magic is good for 12 wins, no matter who the coach is. Good coaches should be able to get to 18 if they have any talent on the team at all.

Speaking of Hilton magic, was that the all-time worst record in Hilton? At least 6 losses. And you can then count Ohio State probably. Yipes.

"PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS? What playoffs?"

We will be patient - we have no choice but to wait for Novemeber. Let's cream EA Sports - we owe them one for WM and Curtis and Will.
