BDJ: Hoiberg's Comments on him doing too much

I was a bit relieved to hear Freddy make the comment in post game Oakland about him at times doing too much. Obviously its a good problem to have- a player with so much talent who might tend to go overboard. There were a few fast break plays where a pass was the obvious choice, and we failed to score. Hopefully he gets that under control in time for Big 12 play. But still, for a senior would like to see him get the assist in those situations. Anyone else noticing this?

It was one game. It took deandre a while to become his best too.

I thought bdj bdj did less of it in second half anyway.

Almost all of our "play one year" type transfers has gone through growing pains like this. It will improve.

I remember the same "comments" about Kane early on. That worked out just fine. It has to be hard for these 5th year guys to come here. An established team with proven chemistry you don't want to disrupt, but also knowing you've been brought in to be a key contributor. Finding the right balance will be a process.

I'm sure most people noticed it. But like bos said, it will improve. I'll take his 20/11/5 every game if it comes with a few hero-ball moments.

Hoiberg is great at letting players work through their stuff. Lucious seemed to have the hardest time, but he came around great. I think BDJ will be fine. He is still getting used to playing on a real "team."

ISU scored 93 points in the first game despite missing 11 FTs (BDJ was 8-9 I believe) and not having 3 key players on the floor. And they only had 8 turnovers. I can't find too much to complain about other than the lack of focus on the defensive end at times (but give Oak credit for running good offense).

Remember how Deandre would go iso every play before the end of a half and it only worked out once for us?

It'll be the same with BDJ. Because it works when it matters.

BDJ is still getting used to playing in an offense that actually has plays and an identity. This ain't UNLV.

This. Given where he played previously, I kind of expected it for a few games.

Same **** different year. No biggie, all the senior transfers seem to go through it. I did laugh when BDJ did that turnaround fadeaway jumper, because its so out of character for our team and I knew he'd hear about it. I'm not complaining about his play he played well and will get even better.

I don't see this as trolling. I agree with the OP, but I think it will get worked out too.

That...is why you fail

He's good enough that I don't care what he does. On fast breaks he is so smooth and long even going into 3 defenders he is most likely going to make the basket and at least get fouled.

Add Korie Lucious to the list of one year guys who made adjustments for the better.

He looked like a better version of Chris Allen on Friday. He took a lot of poor shots and didn't get a hand in the face on defense. He'll certainly get better, but it's obvious at UNLV he did pretty much whatever he wanted.
