Bad Ebay Transactions

So I've had a few in my days but nothing where I didn't at least get email responses or my item eventually. That was until my latest purchase. Here's the timeline:

10/31: won item, paid immediately and gave shipping address via paypal
11/07: had not heard from seller or received item so emailed for status
11/08: seller responded, said he shipped it today. did not say how or give tracking
11/15: still no item, emailed seller asking for tracking
11/20: no response from seller so emailed again and said if I did not get a response I would file a claim
11/24: still no response so opened a paypal resolution claim

So I sit today here on 11/28 with no reply yet to the PayPal claim or item in hand. Should I go ahead and escalate the PayPal claim so PayPal arbitrates it or wait a few more days? I've had a few items take 3+ weeks a few times to get here because the seller was just too lazy to ship right away and fed me lines how they shipped it only to find out on the shipping invoice they were lying on when they shipped it but at least those sellers would return my inquiries.

Anyone have any expiriences like this or advice to share on how they handled it? I'd go ahead and buy another item like the one I bought if I knew I wouldn't wind up getting stuck with 2 of the same thing eventually so want to get this current one settled first before I try bidding again.

I had a similar problem and the funny thing is that the seller was from near my home town and I was living in North Carolina at the time. So, I gave the address to my father to drive to the house and funny thing was that the people just moved out. Not only that, their eBay account was cancelled not to long after that also. Once I dug a little deeper, I was not the only one this happened to and many people left negative responses.

Looks like for me, it was a scam and once they got enough money, they got out. But this is the only time this has happened and all other transactions have been very good.

I won an Item and still have not recieved it, all was paid for and sent out, this was over three weeks ago. I finally saw a bad comment from the seller saying I refused to pay for the item. I filed last week and still no answer.

This guy doesn't have a lot of feedback but he's still 100% and has 2 transactions this month on his feedback so I know he's been active since I paid for this auction. Guess that's what I get for going with a less active ebayer but have had good luck in the past with those too

Does it matter if I do it through ebay or paypal? paypal used the ebay item number in their dispute claim

It would also be good to file an item dispute with Ebay just to make sure you've got everything covered.

I can't remember how long Paypal gives the other party time to respond. It may be at least a week.

Yeah, going to make sure it's not sitting at home when I get there before I escalate it this weekend probably. I don't like to leave negative feedback but this guy is going to get some once this is settled even if I wind up getting dinged for it. The only negative I ever got was for leaving nuetral feedback for a loser that is no longer a member. Guy kept claiming my item had shipped, showed up nearly a month later with the shipping date well after he first said he did and found out I was not the only one so instead of the neg he deserved I put nuetral and posted the date I won and date he shipped in the comments.

One of the many he bad things about Ebay that as a seller you cannot leave negative feedback for bidders who don't pay.

I'm not sure if you can leave negative feedback as a buyer or seller anymore.

Just tried this, it takes you to the paypal site and through the same claim form that I already filled out.

Think you are right about the seller part. I got this message when I hit the leave feedback just to check this out:

Buyers, you can no longer receive negative or neutral Feedback from sellers.

  • You should leave honest and accurate Feedback without the fear of receiving negative or neutral ratings.

It makes sense as a buyer that it would take you to Paypal.
We're on the other end of the spectrum where we get people who fail to pay for their items. We end up filing claims on Ebay.

If your PayPal account is linked to your credit card, call your credit card company. They may have a few suggestions. Keep in mind that Thanksgiving happened after you filed your claim, so they may be a little slow. Plus I'm guessing this is a very busy time of year for them.

I would definitely pursue it further, especially if you paid by Paypal.

As a personal note, I dislike Ebay and Paypal and feel their merger basically created a monopoly and the site has gone downhill. Individual sellers no longer are able to compete as well because it is basically a storefront site now.
