30+ years ago I knew a Ranger and he bragged about being a snake-eater - they would bite heads off a live snake during training to show toughness, join the group, etc...

Fast forward to 20+ years ago and I was friends with several Rangers and I asked them the same question. I was met with laughter and stories of night training where every element would invariably give up their position by random shouts of "snake" while executing very hasty tactical pauses.

Hadn't thought about it in a while, but is that still part of their culture?

Since I was USAF, our test of manhood was drinking milk a few days after the expiration and even then, many of us went to the flight surgeon just to be sure we could still fly.... ;)
