Thought I'd get a thread started on the actual matchup vs ASU. Anyone have thoughts?

I think Skattebo will be a tough challenge for the DL and LBs. Good news is, we are as healthy as we have been all season on D I think.

I don't know much about their QB or their defense.

This might be a "hot" take, but I expect to see Rocco excel with the indoor environment. It hasn't been obvious, but I've been wondering if the wet/windy/cold conditions have had an effect on his game.

Agreed. He did not look good Saturday. But even when the ball was placed well, it still seemed uncatchable by our receivers. The cold matters to a passing team.

Sounds like their #1 receiver, Jordyn Tyson, might be out. 75 catches for 1,101yds this year. Their second leading receiver is Skattebo, so that's a pretty big deal. Their #2 WR had 17 catches for 291 yards, so it's a big drop off in production.

They're gonna want to run the ball as much as possible.

ISU rush defense against Skateboo will decide the game. He almost never goes down on first contact. Remains to be seen if Tyson's injury will allow the DB's to stay M2M and the rest focuses on Skateboo. Leavitt is legit too, so pass rush will have to be on one.

Not sure about ASU's defense though. May have to be a bit of a shootout type of game.

Leavitt is #2 QB in the conference per pff (Sanders)

Cincinnati did a good job at containing ASU's offense. Cincy runs a similar version of the ISU defense, which gives me some hope they can stop ASU. I expect a close game. And with any close game, a crucial turnover for either team may be the difference.

I think because we've been getting a little healthier within our LB corps, as well as having gained more experience, we can be a tough matchup for the ASU running offense. Under Heacock, we have been a solid gang tackling team that swarms the ball, which helps negate YAC.

However, I did watch our game against Kansas, so I am only nervously optimistic.

Leavitt was out for that game, so I'm not sure if I would take too much from that.

Reasons to be optimistic:
  • We're only getting more healthy
  • ASU QB is only somewhat of a run threat (similar to Rocco)
  • Probable that their stud WR is out for the game (probably won't know until game day)
  • We've played in this building, they haven't
  • They lost to Cincy (w/ backup QB I think) who plays our D scheme
Scary things:
  • Scat-uh-BOO!
  • Their QB is excellent at making good decisions
  • ?
I honestly don't know much at all about their defense. That's what I want to know about the most.

The strength of ASU is the offensive line. They have been together awhile and are really good. It would be nice to get JR Singleton back as I think we are going to need to rotate a lot of guys in.
