Never made it before. Should I use Everclear, or Captain Morgan Spiced Rum? Also, if you make a big batch of it, does it keep for awhile?

I would use Everclear, just because that is what the only formulation I've ever used calls for. Rum is obviously not as potent as the Everclear, so if you are looking to get the same alcohol content you will have to use about 3x as much rum as everclear, and I'm not sure how that would turn out... But feel free to try whatever, you're making it!

It does keep for quite awhile. We usually make batches during the summer and will keep them in the fridge for 2-3 months before drinking (lots and lots of sugar and lots and lots of alcohol work wonders as a preservative)

Also, make sure you give the juice mixture plenty of time to cool off before adding the alcohol, otherwise into the air it will go...

Could you re-boil it with the Everclear in there, if you want to drink it warm? Or is it best to just drink it cold?

It is actually pretty good warm, especially this time of year. Just heat it up in the microwave or on stove top, no need to re-boil though. The flavor of the alcohol REALLY comes out when you drink it warm

I have seen a recipe to make it with spice rum, and I have also seen recipes that mixes both vodka and everclear.

In my opinion it is a great tasting drink. One 20oz bottle will knock you on your rear for the most part. Drinking warm is the best this time of year. I warn you not to spill or mix the everclear to early, it can and will flame up on you. My roomie in college mixed it in too fast during the boiling and it boiled over and flamed... Funny as hell but could of been scary. And of course, be sure to add plenty of cinnamon sticks.

Sticking with the original recipe is the way to go on it.

Can you still get everclear in Iowa since the stupid frat at Drake screwed up.

Oh god....how many times did i have apple pie and get extremely drunk? Too many times. Use everclear without a doubt. That stuff is amazingly good.

1/2 gal. Apple Juice
1 gal. Apple Cider
1 lb. Sugar
6 cinnamon sticks.

Bring to boil, simmer 30 minutes. Cool. Add 750 mL Everclear. Return to cider/juice/everclear bottles (gives you an idea of how much 'clear you lost.

I say serve hot, that's been the consensus among people I make it for. Also good later cold on the rocks.

I'd microwave individual cups if you want to reheat...

Temporary threadjack, for the good of the cause: What was your recipe for a gin bucket? I've made them a few times, but they never turned out as good as the one you made.

Also, can you still buy 195-proof Everclear in Iowa? If not, do they sell it in Illinois or Missouri? I'm not gonna waste my time with that 151-proof garbage; if I need to drive to another state and stock up, I will.

Everclear is a must. It will get you canned in a heartbeat. Don't add the everclear when you boil it. Me and my buddies did this once and we were sober all night (not to mention we were extremely angry that we were sober). Let it cool add the liquor and warm it back up if you want. Also throw some cinnamon sticks in the jug your keeping it in it really makes some good stuff.

Get yourself a bucket...

1 2-L Squirt
1 2-L Sprite
1 "thingy" Country Time Lemonade Mix (not the big canister, the hand-sized one)
1.75-L Gin
3 lemons, 3 limes
Ice cubes

Mix the first 4, slice lemons/limes into quarters and squeeze in to the mix.

Gin, Gin, Pass.

To give it a little more kick we used to add red hot candies that melted while boiling.

I totally want to make all of these recipes now. Thanks guys!

Not quite a holiday drink but it has lead to one of the worst hangovers in my life:

Voodoo Juice
Ingredients
1 oz Orange rum (Cruzan)
1 oz Banana rum (Cruzan)
1 oz Coconut rum (Cruzan)
1 oz Pineapple rum (Cruzan)
1 1/2 oz Cranberry juice
1 1/2 oz Orange juice
1 1/2 oz Pineapple juice
1/2 oz Dark rum (Cruzan)
Mixing Instruction
Pour over ice in a hurricane class. Float dark rum on top and serve.

Goes down like juice...but with lots of rum.

I might have to make the apple pie when I get home from X-mas skiing. Any other good apple pie recipes or suggestions?

This does not really sound that great but I have been around the block enough to know that the whole is more than the sum of its ingredients. What does this taste like?
