ISU also has only 1 win against a P4 team above 500.
It’s halfway through the season and barely into conference play, you can argue just about any point but still way too much season ahead to draw any real conclusions
Which is actually the same as LSU.
The teams LSU has beaten collectively own 3 total wins over P4 schools (this number is 5 for ISU).
LSU’s OT win at home over Ole Miss is good enough to jump them 5 spots up into the top 10. This is ahead of where Ole Miss was, and over 4 teams that won.
Ole Miss’s OT loss on the road to LSU was bad enough to drop them 9 places in the poll, which quite frankly probably means they should be unranked at this point.
I’m not naive, but it is still somewhat irksome that what at first blush appears to be incoherent volatility preserves a top 10 poll slot for the SEC.
Imagine on 11/2 Texas Tech beats an undefeated ISU. Both Ole Miss and LSU have won their games over this period.
Ole Miss would be 7-2 with wins over potentially 1 ranked team.
ISU would be 7-1 with wins over what could potentially be 2 ranked teams.
LSU would be 8-1 with wins over 1 ranked team, and potentially a 2nd (though that likely takes away Ole Miss’s ranked team victory). Their loss is to a team that at best is 6-3.
Tech would be 8-1 with wins over 1 ranked team and potentially 2 more ranked teams. Their loss is to a team that could be 7-1, with their lone loss being to a likely playoff team.
Could Tech potentially leapfrog over that Top 10 LSU team?
