Pretty sure I just read that Iowa is making it their 'Black and Gold' day, so there will be excitement in one fanbase, at least.

This was the exact poll today on The Afternoon Players Club on AM 1600 Cedar Rapids. The crazy thing was Iowa Fans were not even excited for this game. 65% of the poll was not excited in pure NE Iowa University territory.

I'm excited because I can't believe our offense could truly be that bad. Take away the turnovers and the game goes the other way IMO. Plenty to look forward to still and hoping for a great game. Haven't lost in Iowa City since 2010, cheers to keeping the streak alive!

That makes sense to me. There is no trash talking. Hawks fans will say something about how bad our team is and it's like "yep. True." They aren't excited because it's a lose-lose. They either beat up on a bad team and ISU fans have legit excuses or they lose to a bad ISU team. It reminds me of the game two years ago. We have nothing to lose and I remember I was really loose for that one but apathy was thick.

I am excited to see if the team can improve. There were a lot of errors last week that the team should be able to correct.

As someone else said, ISU is playing with house money, there is nothing to lose in this game. If ISU gets hammered, well they were supposed to do that. If they play well and loose it will show they are getting better. If they can somehow pull off a win, they will raise a lot of eyebrows and ruin the Hawks dream of a NC game before it can really get rolling.

I'm having people over to watch the game and I'll have the table clear with board games ready to go. That should tell you all you need to know about my excitement level.

The last time I got excited about this game was 1977 when we were a top 20 team or should have been and we went into the game as heavy favorites and lost 10-7.........

On the way home from Iowa City my wife sez its a mistake to play Iowa and after ten straight losses I tended to agree with her............

Boys in the big 12 we have to Win every NON Conference game and win 3 conf games to get bowl eligible and that's never going to change..........

Success in football is a bowl game every year .........

fyi Our er ISU's success rate historically is 44 percent, Paul Rhoads the last 3 years won 22 percent of his games

Im pretty mixed on it, I had less expectations on Campbell right away knowing he needed a couple years to build on the guys in the trenches. I am really looking forward to Lazard/Butler lighting them up.

I saw Iowa State almost lose/lose to FCS teams in 2011 and 2014, and then turn around and beat Iowa. At this point, knowing that the team is rebuilding and it's Campbell's first year, it feels like playing with house money. ISU almost always has a shot, because Iowa is rarely as good as they are perceived to be, and there is zero pressure as a fan for this game. So relax and if we lose, oh well. But if we win, enjoy the black and gold tears.

This is where I am at also.

I foresee turning the game off prior to halftime anyway, so I might as well save myself the trouble and skip the whole thing. It will assuredly be a mistake-laden boondoggle that will just be too ugly to watch.

If having a bad football team makes you lose interest, how are you still an ISU fan? There are teams every year who I'll admit are unbeatable for our program in its current state, Iowa isn't one of them.

I'm guessing there were a lot of fans that were drinking the kool aid in full force this time around with Campbell and all the hype that was being built in the off season. A lot of people were probably convincing themselves that "this time it's different, this is the guy to turn the corner at ISU". Which for the record I personally do think this staff has the potential to do some very special things at ISU and it will take some time to do so. But I think the way the team looked (penalties, unforced turnovers, getting hurt running into our own players) really killed that enthusiasm that much more with the hype that was built prior to Saturdays game.

I'm going to hit the beach, stick my toes in the sand, and completely ignore this game.

Not one thing from week 1 makes me believe this is a competitive team. So I'll watch the waves and hope for a win, but I'm not investing time to watch

We are going to go out to eat Saturday night and will go to a place with the game on. If the game is competitive will stay and watch, if not will head for home after our meal. Hope to see the team and coaches compete well. It's going to be tough to get the W. Probably more excited for the volleyball match tomorrow night.

It's a game of pigskin, featuring the Cardinal & Gold, up against their most-hated/beloved in-state rivals, on a Saturday evening, with a beautiful forecast. I'm genuinely excited and downright stoked as always. Born in '83, the year Hayden Fry's domination over the Clones began, it took me 15 years on Earth before I could finally wear my Cyclone attire WITH bragging rights to school on a Monday morning following the Cy-Hawk game

I'm amped for gameday. #AnyGivenSaturday #LoyalForeverTrue #perspective
