There is a coin show in Iowa City next Sunday. I will be set up there and there will be plenty of other dealers too. PM me if you want to talk more. I might be able to give you at least a rough idea of what you have.

You would think. But then again there are coins from the Roman Empire that are around 2,000 years old that aren't really worth that much either.

Yeah, this. I'm no expert, but generally speaking it seems people come away disappointed when they think they have something old and valuable on their hands.

Thanks for the insight all. Anyone know a coin guru in the CR area that might be willing to take a look at the collection?
Is that coin shop on the corner of Edgewood and Johnson Ave still there? It was behind the Papa John's in that little strip store area across the street from Guppy's right near LaSalle.

Can you view the images?

Yes, and I apologize for the amount of time it took me to respond. Looks like others have already answered most of your questions. If you do look this coin (or any other) up in a price guide, or ebay, you're going to want to know the grade. A decent resource for grading is PCGS Photograde. You can compare your coin to images of others and get an idea where it falls. It's tougher without the coin in hand to rotate and watch the light move on it, but I'm thinking yours is in the XF40 to XF45 range. Again though, I disclaim any idea of being an expert and others opinions will most definitely vary.

Thread made me drag out the old five mark pieces iI have. If nothing else they are .8 oz of silver.

Top two are decent circulated condition. Bottom left is worn and not the Kaiser but older. Bottom right I ruined back in the 1970's when I had it on a silver dollar key chain (same size) and those MGB and Nova keys kinda scared it up bad. :)
