Also make sure you have at least 2 hours between flights coming back. We switched in Dallas and you have to pick up your bags then go thru customs, then recheck your bags then go thru security again. We had 2 hours and had about 15 minutes to spare. Many people on the flight from Cancun to Dallas missed their next flight.

Xcaret is nice, but more geared towards families. The rooms are nice, the food and drinks are great. There are a lot of swimming pools and activities. The beach is man made and very small and full of thin, tan, 18 year old smokers...I mean people from Spain.

Just got back from Playa and we stayed at Rio playacar. It was nice. All inclusive but we got tired of eating all inclusive buffet style rather quickly. I'm not real a very big buffet fan anyway. Be sure to eat at Karens on 5 th ave. So good we at there twice and the service was outstanding. And rememeber, don't drink the water:>

The best place for food in Playa IMO is La Pesca. A thatched roof palapa restaurant on 30th Avenue across from Mega store. The jumbo stuffed Imperial Shrimp are only 130 pesos and by far much better food than what is offered at Karen's. On Fifth Avenue, Big Lobster and La Palapa Hemingway were also okay. But things on Fifth Avenue are far more pricier than the restaurants off of Fifth Avenue. Plus the food at La Pesca is just that good. And absolutely unbelievable for the price. El Fogon has really good cheap Mexican. Chicken Fajitas are great and enough for two people really. A couple of beers and an order with all the fixings will be around $10 or less. I will be back in Playa in about a month. I am making myself very hungry.

Dont go buffet all inclusive. The all inclusive place we stayed at in Mexico had 3 places to eat. One casual, one very nice and one with more local food. It was all order off the menu. Plus we had free room service at anytime which was nice too.

My finance and I went to a travel agent today and we decided to go to Mexico for our honeymoon. We got some good deals down there. We were looking at 4 or 5 nights there. The area were looking at is 40 miles south of Cancun. They are all All Inclusive resorts. These prices reflect 4 night stays

I was wandering if anybody been to any of these. Any info will help us decide which one to stay at

Dreams Puerto aventuras resort and spa, around $1700

Dreams Tulum, around $1900

occidental Grand Xcaret, around $1950

The Royal Playa del carmen, around $2199

Just wandering what people thought about these

My wife and I went to the Royal at Playa Del Carmen for our honey moon last year and we loved it. The resort is right in the town with lots of places to explore and eat. The hotel is 20 minute beach walk from the a boat launch that goes to Cozumel. The rooms were huge (800 plus sq ft) with hot tubs. The food was awesome and the staff was friendly. I would higly recommend it.

Hope this helps.

Those prices seem extremely high escpecially for only 4 or 5 nights? Where are you flying from? What time of year? Have you tried Hotwire or Travelocity? I've done Cancun and Puerto Vallarta(2x) using those sites and never had an issue. I'd also try Apple Vacations. Travel agents are outdated and pretty useless from my experience. For some people it can be scary purchasing on-line considering it's a foreign country, but it's easy. You might want to look around.

You know your food! I would also suggest HC Monterrey. I love Fogon.

The best brownies in the world are sold at Au Cacauo which is just up the road from the Royal in PDC. At the intersection of Constituyentes and 5th in the NE corner strip mall!

I'll be there in March!!!

This is where we stayed. The buffet was ok, but the specialty restaurants were phenomenal. Nightly entertainment(which was very good as well) and a night club. 3 or so pools.

Grand Palladium Colonial & Kantenah - Apple Vacations - Vacations for Families, Weddings, Luxury, Groups, Golf, Honeymoons,Spa and more
Stayed here as well, in the more "private" area of the resort (hence more expensive and no kids). I remember our room had outdoor showers which was pretty cool. If you're tall, you can see into the outdoor showers for the room below. It's not going to blow you away or anything, we just wanted to go for the sun and beach....not the resort. It was perfect for that.

Our Travel agent hooked us up with this deal. It is a 4 night stay. I live in cedar falls and the flight is out of minneapolis which is considerbly cheaper.

The flight has a layover in memphis tennessee for about 3 hours, so that should give us enough time. We want to go across to cozumel to go scubba diving or snorkaling.

Again, I'd check Travelocity. I just looked on-line for Dreams Puerto Adventuras for 7 nights (may11-18) w/ air from DSM for $2810 (1405 pp). $1700 for only 4 nights is absurd.

Not sure if this will work or not...

Family went there last Summer but rented a house on the beach down near Playa Del Carmen. Was nice to be away from Cancun unless you like the touristy feel.

If you take a day trip to see the ruins, I would recommend Chichen Itza.

I am a definite foodie. Plan on hitting Ah Cacao for the brownies and HC Monterrey for some arrachara. You should try Babe's if you like Thai food or Swedish meatballs with mash potatoes. Carboncito's isn't too bad either. Playa Maya has some great beach bar food and Coconut shrimp. They have a bucket of beer and Nacho special that was around $11 USD. I will be there in mid-Feb. So many great places with reasonable prices. Also plan on hitting the food carts around the bus station in the morning.

As long as you go all inclusive and make sure the beach is easily accessible, you can't go wrong.
