My sis and I are buying our parents a roofrack box for skis and general extra storage this Christmas. Anyone have any experience with these? Any preference between brands?

I have a yakima rack for my bikes, and think it is good.

Yakima crossbars, Yakima steelhead bike mounts, Thule Summit cargo box. We've been using Yakima cross bars and mounts for 12 years now. No complaints.

Thanks, any reason for switching to a Thule box vs. Yakima? Also, wondering do you ever have problems with the wind blowing it open.

I got the Thule box because it was on sale at the shop I frequent. The Thule box will work with factory cross bars, Thule square bars and Yakima round bars. Never had wind affect it, I always keep the locks on the box locked whenever we have it on. We've had our box for going on eight years now, we only use it 3 or 4 times per year, but it's held up great.

I have Yakima everything else because I worked at a bike shop at the time when I bought the Yakima racks and mounts and I had a good employee discount on Yakima products.

You won't go wrong on either brand.

I've got a couple yakima systems...the q-towers for my car and the control towers for my jeep. Both have worked very well and the crossbars have lasted quite a while. I would go with everyone else who says to buy what you find between Yakima/Thule...both have quality stuff.

Will add the love to Yakima. Use it for both bikes and skis and never had any problems. Have a couple of friends who prefer Thule. Both good products, don't think you can go wrong with either.

I have a Yakima ski/snowboard carrier. It works great, the only complaint I have is my snowboard bindings would rub on the top of my car. I just shove a folded up paper towel in there before I take off, and it is no problem driving from dsm to steamboat.
