First off, being a police officer would be something I could not do, and being that they are a necessary part of society, props to them. The main reason I could not be a cop is that I would feel like a hypocritical *******, which I could not live with.

It seems a lot of people go into law enforcement for the wrong reasons. They do not want to help people or keep them safe, rather they enjoy the daily power trip they can enjoy at any time. The Ames cops are famous for making bad situations worse...furthering disturbing the peace.

They can be all mighty and act tough in situations regarding alcohol or traffic violations, yet say if someone decides to shoot someone in Caseys, they allow them to go to Hyvee and eat some buffet, get on a bicycle and ride it all the way to Nevada, where the murderer then steals a cop car and drives it all the way to State Center.

I think you don't know most cops...

I got pulled over by a WDM police officer, maybe 10+ years ago.

It was around 2:00 in the morning - obviously looking to see if I was DUI, but had cause as I rolled through a stop sign turning right. He followed me and then pulled me over after I turned on to my block. I parked in front of my house and started to get out of my car. He calmed shouted at me to get back in my car. Told him this was my house and he said he didn't care. So I did.

Came up to the window and went through the business of why he pulled me over. Said that he needed me to stay in the car as apparently they think they have more control of me in there. I guess it would be harder for me to jump him or run away, but ALOT easier for me to grab the .38 under my seat (if I had one and was so inclined). Doesn't make much sense to me. BUT -

I apologized for not understanding, he ran his checks and was kind enough to let me off with an unwritten warning.

Not so sure why it's so hard to just listen to the cop when it seems like they're the ones getting hurt and among the very few of us who could consider their lives in danger each day they go to work. Just ask the Oakland PD.

We called the Ankeny police once when (what turned out to be) high schoolers were pounding on our back door in the middle of the night. They came right out and drove around the neighborhood with their spotlights. Not only did they drive around, but they got out of their cars and looked around the property. They came up and talked to us; were very courteous and quick to respond. I have nothing bad to say about them.

Lived in Ankeny for 12 years, 10 of those with illegal tinting on my windows. Heck I had limousine glass tinting on the back. I have pulled up right next to police at stoplights at least 100 times. Never been pulled over.

I got pulled over once in Ankeny, and it was right in front of my house while my neighbors were outside. He let me off with a warning, and said, pulling you over here is way worse than a ticket. He was polite and professional, but of course so was I.

Now Boone cops! They are a joke, I got pulled over on new 30 because for some stupid reason they changed the speed limit to 45 and did not put any signs up!!!

You know, I have never seen or heard of anyone having problems if they follow the LEOs instructions.

The thing to keep in mind is the ticket is a courtesy, the LEO is actually doing you a favor you can be arrested and your automobile towed and impounded for the same offense. It would mean more paperwork on the officers part but it can and does happen. I have a buddy on the state patrol and a few times a year someone will refuse to comply, not appreciate the courtesy of the ticket and they end up arrested.

They usually start to understand about the time he say "please step out of your vehichle and place your hands on the roof - you are under arrest". Usually about then they become really, really helpful. Of course then it is to late.

I encourage anyone who has a problem with LEOs to ask for a ride along for a shift. The crap they put up with will change your mind. My dad did a while back and by the third stop he was asking the officer he was with if he could just drag to people out of the car and beat the crap out of them for the cop.

they cant be as bad as this dallas cop. check this story out. warning, not a good ending. i hope the cop never works again in public service unless its picking up trash in the park.

Dallas police: Officer drew gun during traffic stop of NFL player outside hospital | News for Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News | Latest News

dude did EVERYTHING right. even had his flashers on. was begging for a ticket just to get it over with.

You forgot:jimlad:

Your right, the dude did everything right, that is the officer. Having flashers on doesn't give you the right to run a red light and 2 stop signs. I recognize that he was trying to get his mom to the hospital, and the officer recognized that too, once they pulled over and told him, but that is why they have ambulances. What good is it rushing to the hospital if you get in a accident on the way because you ran a red light?

Considering the drivers erratic driving and the way everyone jumped out of the car, I would have likely pulled my gun too.

That's actually kind of funny. Whenever my cop buddy gets into a "fight" (usually because the idiot is drunk and wants to "go"), he just lets the guy "go". After about 30-60 seconds, after the guy has completely winded himself and caused no damage to my friend whatsoever, my friend is like "my turn", and after 1-2 submission holds on pressure points the idiot is done.

It won't result in anything because that officer did exactly what he should of done. That person might not have run, but there are people who would; and if it appeared that the person was about to drive away, it is better to stop them before the get into a vehicle and speed away (which would endanger the kids in the car and other civilians). This is on based on the fact that the officer did not pull his weapon, but was ready to in case something happened (by the book).

As for the tint and LP. The tint is because of officer safety, so the officer can see in the car as he approaches so he doesn't get blindsided by someone with a gun. Officers take this seriously for good reason.

As for the LP, don't have broken equipment and you won't get pulled over. Any equipment problems are a red light for officers. 1st, it is against the law. 2nd, it may lead to catching someone who is committing more serious transgression. Most OWI's are pulled over for something unrelated.

You are right on the money with the comments on window tints. The original attempt to compare window tint to wearing sun glasses obviously misses the point. The officer really doesn't care about how you see out, he needs to be able to see in.

I believe that there is another issue involved with displaying the front LP. I've known people who try to cheat the system by not registering a high priced vehicle. They try to take an "extra" plate from a beater and try to drive around hoping not to get stopped. Not smart - not fair - not likely to succeed in the long run, but idiots still attempt to do it.

This THREAD does not deliver. I can't BELIEVE THE COP would pull someone over for BREAKING THE law. And to have the audacity TO NOT draw his weapon when the guy GOT OUT OF his car and put his kids in the BACKSEAT WHICH the officer has no idea of what COULD BE BACK there. Picking up kids does NOT AUTOMATICALLY make you innocent nor does it MAKE YOU not a threat. Tell your "FRIEND" to follow the law next time.

Both are state laws and just about anyone that lives in the state knows it - you're not allowed to tint the front windows and you must have a license plate on the front of the car. Anyone breaking these is just begging for a ticket, and if you got one you deserve it.
Tint is one thing we can agree on, but if you think I want to drill holes in my 25,000 dollar vehicle and make it look ****** just so I can hang an unnecessary plat from the front is insane. Ill support the tint laws all day long, but the front license plate laws are crazy. Do they really expect us to **** up our cars that dont have license plate brackets on the front? Or do they just want another reason to sap as much money out of the people they're supposed to be looking out for?

Um - yeah - it's the law...

And unless you plan on trading your vehicle in the southern US (where most of the states that don't require a front plate are), I highly doubt that the dealer drilling two holes into the front bumper of your vehicle is really affecting the resale value of your vehicle anyway...

You can have whatever you want on the back windows. The law is for the front windshield and driver/passenger side windows. The rear window and any rear side windows don't have tint laws.

While I don't agree that we need a front plate law and I think the tint law should allow up to 35% tint I don't think the OP makes any sense. The officer was doing his job. If you want to run with no front plate and tint you should plan on getting pulled over at some point.
