Amazon Kindle? I don't get it.

How does one get books downloaded to a laptop? What is the format and are books readily available? I've never tried this.

I'm not a big reader, but every book I've wanted to read I could either find in a .pdf from a torrent site or an audiobook from iTunes or a torrent site.

I assume that if you are a bigger reader than me, there may be books that you can't find as easily, which may justify the need for the Kindle.

Wife has one and loves it. I borrowed it and like reading on the flat screen much better than having to constantly flip pages. Clearly it is a luxury/convenience purchase, but I could see our house getting another one in time

Personally I like the Sony Reader better...like the form better and from what I read preforms a little better. But basically the same product. The Kindle does have a couple features that some may like better. Been wanting to get one for a couple years but can't justify the price.
