Orr
Floyd
Eustachy
Morgan
McDermott
Hoiberg

Who would you take?

Orr put us on the map, HOiberg has done great but only been on the job for 2 years. Eustachy and Floyd can coach their ***** off. For my money, give me Floyd. Dude coached all 40 minutes of every game. I remember him f'ing with Norm Stewart at the Big 8 tourney when NOrm got t'd up.

I am an LE apologist, but would take Floyd I think right now. Hoiberg and Hoiball I think will likely eclipse anything those 2 did though, and consistently.

Coin toss between Morgan and McDermott.

WTF are they on your list?

still waiting on the first GM vote

GM was an awesome recruiter under LE. I think the Stinson & co. class would have turned out totally differently if LE had coached them all four years. Too bad things had to turn out the way they did.

Orr is ISU's best all time coach for now. With where he started, it is tough to dispute otherwise. Floyd may have had the best basketball mind of all of them (at least defensively). Eustachy built on the successes of Orr and Floyd to take us to our highest points as a program. Morgan and McDermott were regressions from the previous regimes, so I don't know why they are on your list. I would take Hoiberg above all of them right now for our program and think he will end up being the program's most storied coach when all is said and done.

I love Johnny, but I wonder if Maury John wasn't the best basketball coach to ever coach at Iowa State. I guess we will never know.

Yup, he was a heck of a coach. Wrote, literally, the book on belly button defense.

Orr was my favorite...his enthusiasm was infectious and he was a real "people's coach, Floyd could have been the most successful if he stayed longer and could have been right up there with Orr.

I think Hoiberg is quickly rising by taking us to the tourny his 2nd season and his recruiting is taking off big time...very easily could become ISU's most successful and favorite coach of all time if he stays and continues early success and improvement

I'll go with Eustachy as we saw our best success under him (come on - we were a screw job on a virtual home court away from a national championship under him).

However, Hoiberg keeps this up and I think he'll take this easily.

I'd have to give the nod to Floyd. I love Orr... but man... absolutely no defense. We couldn't win a road game to save our lives. It was like open gym at the YMCA.

LE is great and all too... but the gunnery sergeant drill instructor demeanor made me wonder how well "blue chip" players would take it.

Floyd finally taught defense, and we started winning road games. When you pretty much throw in the towel like Orr did on the road in conference there is only so far up the standings you can go.

You are right, Maury JOhn may have been ISU's best coach ever, but was only here for 2-3 years. HOnestly, I forgot about him, but was just listing the most recent coaches starting with Orr.

His belly button defense book is great and ahead of its time.
