A little over a year ago we bought a Sharp 52" LCD & a Samsung 37" LCD. We went to Best Buy on the southside.

Our experience at Best Buy was awesome. Very knowledgeable sales people & Ryan in TV's was very knowledgeable in what we needed based on our TV watching needs & what we wanted to spend.

I would recommend Ryan @ Best Buy (southside) & the store Manager Angie.

I just went with a Panasonic Plasma but if I was to buy a LCD, Samsung would be at the top or near the top of my list.

I've found Amazon.com has the the best prices if you can wait for it to be delivered.

Seconded. I had a great experience getting my sony from them. Catch them when they do free shipping.

I did research on the internet and narrowed it down to 2 or 3 i liked, looked at those in store, then bought online.

I bought a 32' Samsung in late December. I love it. I got it at Best Buy. 10,000:1 contrast ratio. All the inputs and more.

I love my Samsung. Mine is a 4065 which based on features became the A650 series.

I'll second the suggestion for Amazon. The price beat Sears by several hundred dollars and the delivery service was great. Helped me unpack and place it.

This is a great time to shop if you don't need the latest incremental improvement. Sears, Best Buy and American in Johnston (?) have some great deals right now, some that are even comparable to Amazon because the 09 models will be rolling out soon.

I don't know what Samsung you're looking at, but the A650's are great, the A750's are even better for only a little more money at this point. The A850's are overpriced. A750 internals in a thinner shell. The A550's are good too if you're far more interested in price than quality.

I have a 6 month old Panasonic 42" and a couple 32" Samsung LCD's. If you go big, go Panasonic Plasma. If you go smaller, go Samsung LCD. I have had no complaints or problems with any of them.

Buying online saves tax, and you probably won't buy an extended warranty and won't need one anyhow. Do a comparison and look on cnet.com on pricing and where to buy. Hope that helps.

I was interested in the 550 at American for $1199...is there that much difference in 650 or 850 for the price?

I have a 550 Samsung and very happy with it. I found a good price online and my local guy matched it, spend $ local if you can.

54 weeks ago (I remember because it was the weekend of the NFC and AFC championship games) I was looking to upgrade size from my 37" LCD. I did quite a bit of research online and looked in person at most local stores and decided on a 52" Sony Bravia. Not necessarily recommending that over a Samsung, it's just what I liked plus I already had a Bravia home theater and they sync up nicely. I found the tv on amazon.com for about $300 less than Best Buy and American. I heard good things about amazon and their delivery service, but wanted to make sure I had it in time for my Super Bowl party, plus I'm just generally impatient. That Sunday it was in the American ad for the same price as Best Buy, but included a free Blu-Ray player ($300 value at the time) so I bought it at American. I guess the bottom line is it depends on how patient you are, but I definitely got a lot of good information from the customer reviews on amazon. In my experiences, Best Buy is fine for buying in person if you know what you're looking for, although I see one poster here had good things to say about a particular sales rep. That's generally not been my experience, but at least they aren't commissioned at BB. I think they are at American, and are generally higher pressure because of that. You may also find someone more knowledgeable there, because of that though.

Bottom line, I'd say just keep an eye on the Sunday ads, and amazon is probably good if you're patient.

That 550 you found at American is $1,089 on Amazon with free shipping. Figure in tax and you're looking at ~$200 difference in cost. Either way that is a pretty good deal compared to what those were going for 6-8 months ago. The original list price was $1,499 on Amazon.

As far as the 550 vs. 650/850, I'd consider the 650 the lowest model I'd get. Not because 550 isn't a good TV, but I'm a sucker for the 120Hz feature and the 650 level is where that becomes available. The fluidity blows my mind, but my wife can't see it. Other people hate it. It's totally personal taste. The 550 to 650 jump is $250 at American and just over $350 on Amazon. American actually beats the Amazon price on the 650 by a few bucks (both around $1,450). I'd spend the $250, but again only because of the 120Hz and the fact that $1,500 is what I had to spend last time. Probably not worth it if that feature isn't necessary to you.

It was also mentioned that cnet.com is the place to find reviews. Totally agree. That's where I have done all of my research for everything from TV's to cellphones to laptops and they have been spot on with everything.

According to Consumer Reports, Samsung is the way to go. They also say Costco has the best prices...haven't checked that yet for myself, but thats what they say!

I settled on Samsung because they offered quality that is generally on par with Sony without being able to command the namebrand premium. I'm sure plenty of other manufacturers (Toshiba, Sharp, etc.) make great TVs too, but it seems like everyone but Samsung and Sony are a mixed bag. They offer good quality at every price point while others have a dud here and there. If you research enough you can find diamonds in the rough from other companies. Also, I'm talking about the sub $2,000 market. There are alot of great TVs in the high end market. Pioneer Elite plasmas for instance are flat out amazing, but that's another dicussion.

You didn't "settle" on Samsung, my friend. You made a great choice. Samsung 650 LCD or Panasonic Plasma if you ask me.

I will fourth or fifth the amazon recommendation. I just got 46" about a month ago, the price was much cheaper, there was no tax and shipping was free. I was delivered to my front door and it is the best TV I have owned. The touch of color cabinet is very sharp. Samsung makes some of the best TV's on the market.

I bought the LCD 46" LN46A650 at American in Early december. I shopped several stores & internet. American sales seemed pretty knowledgeable and offered comparisons. I already knew I wanted the Samsung, but was comparing LCD and plasma. They would price match anyone in Des Moines. A week later, the same model came on sale at Sears, so I called and they gave me a credit on my credit card, no problem, honored price match. The price was down to within $25 of internet prices, at Amazon, so I felt good in the end. American had stock of the units, while other stores did not at the time. I am very satisified with the purchase....great TV. I receive over the air digital broadcast TV. The HD football games are great, and I believe that is only 720p.

My parents bought the 52" Samsung from Amazon and had some trouble w/ order and delivery - had to reorder it through the actual distributor and pay $100 more in the end.
