A Quest For Sausage...

Like a lot of people, I have some family & friends coming in for the holidays. I have some some new recipes that I would like to try during this time. One is a chili recipe that calls for mutton/lamb meat. The others are a few cajun recipes that call for andouille (sp?)sausage.

You can get lamb meat at a few stores around here (Des Moines) but I notice that it all seems to come from New Zealand. Is there a place where I could get some lamb that is from a farm somewhere a little closer than a 20 hour plane ride from Kiwi-country?

Does anyone know of a local place that sells andouille sausage?

Too bad they closed the mustard thread, but I think this has a shot at succeeding it. To answer your question ketchupnmustard, I have no idea.

I thought this thread was going to be from a Hawkeye fan posting from the Metrodome.

ok, lets break this down into steps
1) we know there are sheep in Iowa
2) does anyone know any sheep not romantically attached to a hawk fan?
3) does anyone know a butcher willing to grind up said sheep?

I know two. Molly and Polly. However...

- They belong to me
- I will not allow the grinding up of Molly and Polly
- They're inflatable

Try the Garden in Des Moines. It's a bar. I am sure you will find your sausage.

I just bought some lamb stew meat at Hy Vee last week. I didn't bother to check where the lamb came from. They also had whole legs of lamb and one package of boneless.
Do you have something against Kiwi lamb, or are you just trying to support local farmers?
