This was on my Athletic feed this morning. An absolutely great story about the ISU athletic department.

Naturally, unless you're a subscriber it will be behind a paywall, but in case they're doing any sort of specials, like a week or even a few days free, it's worth the read.

Simply a terrific piece that will fill you with pride to be a Cyclone fan.

Eh I am pretty tired of reading Scott Dochterman write about ISU

You're entitled to your opinion, but this is just plain silly. It's an extremely complimentary piece about Iowa State that is featured on a prominent sports-focused website. If your objection to it is truly just about who wrote it then you are honestly just being contrary for the sake of being contrary.

Is this the first place where it's been mentioned we are going to fulfill the full $20.5 million?

"When the House settlement becomes official, the Cyclones plan to fully fund the $20.5 million allowed in revenue sharing with athletes. That will prevent Iowa State from falling behind when recruiting against its instate rival and the six other Big Ten or SEC schools in bordering states. It also enables the Cyclones to not only keep pace with its Big 12 foes but compete for championships."

For 2 years..... then the surplus runs out. Hopefully the landscape of college athletics gets fixed by then. All of this is according to Pollard.

A good read. If you're paying attention to what Pollard has been saying, there's no earth shattering revelation.

I'm glad the author put some emphasis on the sacrifices the athletics department made during COVID. It certainly took some top shelf leadership and visioning on the part of Pollard. His read on that situation and then explaining to the coaches who agreed (and Campbell offering to double down) to take pay cuts because of what it means to the whole organization is refreshing. We're living with the fruits of that decision, and they taste excellent!

Also I don't think anyone fully understands what CyTown could mean to the athletic department and ISU's place in the competitive landscape of "big time" college sports. We think we do, we hope Jamie is right, but time will tell. I think it will be a huge boost, and I think a statue of Jamie Pollard will someday be featured somewhere in CyTown. As a fan who began in the 80's and has seen a lot of downs, he's on my ISU "Mount Rushmore" for sure.

BTW just go to reading mode and you can bypass the paywall. Don't give the Athletic a dime
How does one do that? I'm old and don't know how to get to read only mode.

Won't copy the entire story, but this is great to see:

A nice change of pace from the doom and gloom video I watched the other day.
I think short term ISU will be fine financially. But Pollard is always looking 5+ years down the road. That's when it may get dicey as cash reserves would have run out by then (if not a couple years earlier). And I think Pollard likes to paint a worst case scenario. It's standard accounting behavior to be very conservative, and he was a licensed CPA

This still just kills me: "In what once was a sprawling parking lot between Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum, a new $225 million public-private development called CyTown is scheduled to open in 2027." I sincerely wish we would have named it Tornado Alley or the Storm Center or something clever...

And if you believe that CyTown is the best we could come up with, or that it's an awesome name, I'd love to hear "why" you think so.

I teared up as I read this sentence which followed the description of the meeting where the ISU head coaches and Jamie agreed to reduce their salaries by 10% and to not take their bonuses during the pandemic:

“Afterward, Pollard received a texted from Campbell, who let the athletic director know if he needed to withhold more, he could.”

I again am tearing up as I write this post.

Matt Campbell and everything about Iowa State are so special!

Haven't read the article, but if it's so complimentary about ISU, why did this Hawkeye dedicated writer have to begin his article with the following words?

"Forever a college sports have-not, the Iowa State athletic department...."

Yeah, i too loved the COVID info was shared. That really speaks to leadership and a solid team the top leaders in the program have (sacrifice for the greater good and be able to spring back when COVID changed).

I am with you on CyTown....it can serve as an enhancement to gameday or event day experiences, but also draw other things in like regional meetings, etc. with the hotel and all that.

So...you admit to not reading the article, but it appears that you chose to be dismissive of the content based on a few words at the very beginning of the piece?

Sigh...for all of our recent overall success this kind of "victim" mindset is why they (Hawk fans) still call us "little brother".

Without this context, Pollard's stewardship would not appear to be the amazing decisive factor in the growth of ISU athletics. Right?

Besides, it's truth.
