the following pictures were taken this afternoon in what was an early grass lot session. The pictures include me (rocking the ennis haywood jersey on occasion) j4state (blue athletic shorts) and a couple of our other friends. We are completely pumped for thursday and hope a few of you guys can come swing by our tailgate and shoot the sh*t. Just look for Pancho Villa (the van in the pic) and our team wop tshirts. Hope these pics get you guys in the mood and we hope to see some CF members stop by and have a brew! Go State!

I'm curious, how did you chose the names of your ride and your crew?

well, Pancho Villa was completely random. My brother and I were working on it a few weeks ago, and something just dawned on me that the van should be called Pancho Villa (he was a Mexican revolutionary/bandit that lead several raids into New Mexico in the 1910's or so). Team Wop comes from the name of a drink that we serve alot when we throw parties/tailgate. It consists of beer, lemonade concentrate, and vodka. It sounds gross, but its awesome. Basically we wanted to refer to ourselves with a term we knew no one else was going to, and thus we decided on Team Wop. A slight inside joke, I guess.

Beer and vodka sounds like a wonderful concoction.

Interesting choices. So you are aware that Villa was an enemy of the US, but did you know that the term 'wop' is an ethnic slur?

Why does it matter??? I didn't realize this site had a cultural diversity representative.

The point is that it's all in the name of ISU football, fans, and tailgating so quit interrogating, it's pointless!

wow... someone is seriously offended we named a van after Pancho Villa. Christ, we didnt name it Osama Bin Laden. As far as "wop" being an ethnic slur, i have never heard it used as an ethnic slur. The drink got its name because it "wops" (ie knocks) you on your a$$. Some people just like to get pissy about everything don't they?

I don't recall 'getting pissy,' friend, just asking a question.

From dictionary.com:

wop/wɒp/Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[wop]Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

–noun Slang (disparaging and offensive
thinsp.png
). an Italian or a person of Italian descent.

It has to do more with those fantastical muffin-gangsta photos posted with delicious style above....I mean really now....do you have to literally shovel the tang' out the door every morning? I do hear the squishy sounds eminating from moist office chairs of every female that strolls upon the site...classic

WOP= With Out Papers. Term was for the italians that came to America and did it illegal. THey would stamp the term WOP on there paperwork. People would call them WOP's and it irritated them because it made them worse than the people with papers.

No big deal anymore. It means nothing if it's not used in that Fasion. Can you tell I am part italian..

Now cyclonedrew...you and I have had our scuffle in the past...but all is forgiven with the above post...very insightful and i was ignorant of this.

My suggestion to Al_4_State is this...keep the mildly offensive pimp-van name intact...and quickly delete the above photos with extreme haste...I fear that all of our mates, girlfriends, and wives are currently shedding the garments that guard the hushed-about treasures...and are scurrying to that tail gate!
mate, you and your crew may be the slayers of booty...but this is going too far...please cover your copper-toned god-like figures...us mortal men cannot compete.

Too late...the wife called me from her car. She just left the lawyers office...got the d-vorce papers drawn up and wants me to meet her on I-35 for my signature.

Then she'll travel the remainder of the way alone to Ames...awaiting the WOP-studs.:Swirl:

Where or where did I go wrong? :(

Should I now go buy a van? Live down by the river mayahps? Re-up my gym membership?

well, you proved your point. Sorry to misinterpert your curiosity for anger. Funny part is several members (myself included) of our team are of italian descent, and none of us were even remotely aware of that. I guess we can make fun of ourselves, right? Anyways, monkey, thank you for the sarcastic accolades. If only your inquiries were true, then we would be the happiest men in Ames. We just thought being shirtless in the grass lots with our lovely old van on a sunday afternoon was funny, rather than some attempt to pimp ourselves to the ladies. Our only intent with this post was to throw up some pics of ISU fans goofing around, having fun at our favorite stomping grounds in anticipation of the season. Instead we are cast as "muffin-gangsta" (there is nothing "gangsta" about us or the van), anti-american racists. Wow.
