The only thing that makes this worth mentioning is because it's Iowa and we are rivals. I'm sure no one really gives a **** if someone is wearing a shirt for an unrelated school. For example, I was born and raised a Clemson fan and I still am even though I came to ISU. I even have a few Clemson shirts that I occasionally wear on campus! If Clemson ever played ISU I would hate it, but I would also definitely cheer for ISU... but that doesn't mean I'm not a Clemson fan.

However... I do hate people that go to ISU/Iowa but will still hate on their school's athletics, that doesn't make sense and anyone that does that (either way) is likely a large d-bag

“I think it is a punch to the jaw if you are a school here and you don’t support your own team.â€￾

I graduated from ISU in 1994, but returned in 2010 to begin work on my masters. Lots of fun taking class with students half your age, but that is a different story.

In the 90's it seemed very rare to see hawk attire on campus. But now, I see it pretty much every day that I commute to campus, and usually, several times on multiple people. Makes me wonder why they are in Ames. Perhaps it is the better school for their major? Or maybe they don't want to hang out in Iowa City with all snobby Chicago kids that weren't smart enough to get into Northwestern? Who knows.

Did anyone else notice the parking attendant gal wearing a Hawkeye hat next to lot C6.? I thought about saying something to her but someone must have beat me to it. About an hour before game time she covered up the logo with her sunglasses. What makes someone think wearing Hawk gear to an ISU game when they are getting paid by ISU is a good idea?

But you also ended up going to ISU correct? If you went somewhere else would you have loved the school you attended?
Well I did go to ISU for five semesters in the ME program, but realized that I didn't want to be an engineer so I quit. After a few years I decided I wanted to go back to school for astronomy and ISU didn't offer a major in it so I went to the University of Iowa (gasp!). So I think about third of my credits I graduated with were from ISU, if that matters. While at Iowa, I was only there for the academics so I didn't go to any games and didn't care about athletics in general. Which admittedly wasn't very hard since there weren't many athletics fans in the physics and astronomy department anyway. I really enjoyed my time in Iowa City, but I made a decision to not get invested in the athletics. After growing up a Cyclone fan, it wasn't a difficult thing to do.

I encourage all Iowa fans on campus to wear their Iowa gear. Particularly the ones that might see AJ on his trips to and fro class. A little extra motivation for the big guy couldn't hurt :jimlad:

I hope he accidently runs into that turd who goes to ISU that started that thread on HN.

If you want to be an Iowa fan and go to ISU that is fine and dandy (even though you are huge db) just expect to be harassed.

No kidding, I saw that and thought he must be some snot nose freshman that is still living HS. Reminded me of my freshman roommate who went home to CR EVERY weekend. Good lordy.

He tweeted a while back about tackling a kid walking across campus in Iowa gear, that would be hilarious.

No, it wouldn't. He would be ineligible. beating Iowa>>>>>>>beating some loser. Now, if some random student decided that was a good thing to do, well, that's different.

I am thinking that maybe they need to do another of those Compliance Linebacker videos, this one aimed at fan compliance. Bam, whoa!

There is no problem being an ISU fan at Iowa.

I don't remember any Hawkeye gear on campus when I went to ISU. I grew up a Mizzou fan, but never went to Mizzou. I became an ISU fan when I went to ISU. There is a big difference between being just a fan and an alum. I will ALWAYS root for my alma mater(s) over any other school.

It bugs me when people talk about loyalty of rooting for a team when they a kid. Loyalty to what? You are a kid and you are just rooting for people who wear a jersey. When you attend a school you are part of that organization whether you played on the team or not. It makes no sense to root for you childhood team over the school you are a part of. You have your whole life to live and who you rooted for when you were a kid is a miniscule part of it. Grow up and get out of your little sheltered mommy and daddy high school world.

So who do you root for when you leave that organization? You are no longer a part of it. What if you go to a few different schools? Have to change each time?

It's all a matter of opinion, and yes it makes sense. If people want to change their allegiance, fine. If they don't, that's fine too.

I get this, I grew up in eastern Iowa, my parents didn't go to college, but we watched Iowa basketball on TV growing up. Once I went to ISU, I realized it's different as an alum. I'm not a fan of ISU because they win a lot, or because it's the cool thing to do. I'm an ISU fan because it's a significant part of who I am.

However, depending on circumstances....I can see the other side. Let's say you went to every game with your dad and you see those games as some of the best times you had with your dad. Then, you went to the other school just because of the program, but never really got into the school life.

But, I will end by saying, as have many others who live over here...the people who feel it's appropriate to be an inconsiderate and rude person just because it's football season...are still jackasses.

But said:
Football is a game, it's a stupid GAME, it's fun to rib, but when real things go down it's just idiots or jackasses being who they would be without a cause to justify their aggressiveness towards others shielded in fandom.

To each their own I suppose...but I guess I really don't understand the "if i went to iowa I'd be an iowa fan" train of thought. kinda fairweather IMO, unless you really had no allegiance to a team before you showed up to class freshman year of college. I grew up a hawkeye fan in eastern iowa just because that's all i knew about as a kid. the media in eastern iowa really sucked at the time when it came to Cyclone reporting (and to a lesser extent, it still sucks.) But I changed to the Cyclones in 8th grade (before HS obvs) due to watching Seneca Wallace and he was in the news NATIONALLY and couldn't be ignored in eastern iowa. He was the main reason I wanted to be a Clone fan, but after some research on ISU and attending some Cyclone games and feeling like I was apart of something I decided to change. It was just an electric time. Never looked back, never will. Clone to the Bone, even if i ever decided to attend the U of I for any reason.

I don't really understand that line of thinking. I could not imagine changing my allegiance as a fan. I grew up an Iowa fan. I went to my first game at four years old and have been to all but four games for the last 31 years. I am an ISU alum and root for the Cyclones but will always be a Hawkeye fan. The idea that you could change from an Iowa fan to an ISU fan means you were not really a Hawkeye fan. There is a difference between rooting for a team growing up and being a fan(atic). IMHO.

You went to ISU but are a Hawk fan, I can't change your mentality but I can make you feel bad. Why are you an Iowa fan, the colors? get over it.
