On Saturday it was brought to my attention we are striking distance of 2013 ksu team record for 3's made in a season. We were 34 away entering Saturday and made 8 to be 26 away. Only had 4 today so number needed is 22.

Before the game, the Baylor starters came out and went up to the two female officials and chatted with them, never seen that one before.

Nylissa Smith flipped off our student section, Bickle flopped twice, nothing called. Andrews was told twice by Eric Brewton to tuck in her jersey, nothing done. Felicia Grinther hates Bill and it is no secret, and as soon as I saw we had her, Eric Brewton, and Lisa Jones I knew it was going to be a long night. Baylor has been catered to by officials in the Big12 for years and when they get to the NCAA tourney and it doesn't happen, they don't know what to do.

Talk about a classless bunch - win with class, shake hands and get off the court. Instead, you have Queen Egbo crowing at the crowd, and Nikki Collen doing the same with a couple of her assistants.

Which one was Grinther? That whole crew was marginal (to be kind) but when you lose by 25 it's not the refs.

Well great crowd this evening. Sad the game went the way it did. Hopefully the ladies bounce back get the W at WVU then do well in KC and get ready for the tourney. Two games in Hilton get to the sweet 16 is still the goal IMO. A good bracket maybe the elite?

Bill is an amazing coach, so this isn’t taking away what he has done or anything. But it’s coaching. He has never really cracked that code to get his players in position to succeed. We have to be able to play inside out and get our shooters looks and then make them against these teams. It has happened but it’s the outlier not the norm. We aren’t going to match their athleticism or size ever.

Also we are a dribbling team where the ball tends to get stuck in one players hands. Ashley is amazing but she’s not what you want against these teams because the ball sticks. And that’s a disservice to her by the coaches not getting a better game plan to put her in those positions.
Sorry dude, but your comments either show you haven't watched this 24-5 team except for tonight or you don't have a clue. TWENTY FOUR AND FIVE. I call that success. We had lots of wide open shots from outside tonight. They just weren't going in. It was just one of those nights. It wasn't coaching. It wasn't Baylor. We just couldn't make a shot. Your comments about "dribbling" also indicate you have only watched this one game. It's sure not what the rest of us have seen all season long. I bet you can watch those games on line if you really care to.

Disagree.
This cannot to solved with coaching. This can only be solved with recruiting. We are very good, but not elite. Baylor is bigger, stronger and quicker. We were almost never open. On the rare occasion we got around somebody they had people to intimidate or erase the shot.
Oh for sure bring some better recruits is the ideal situation and negates things quickly. I am with you on that. Problem is Bill has been here how long and has had runs of success in the past. We just aren’t going to get those recruits consistently to build that type of team. We get a recruit here or there but nothing to complete a whole team.

So in the meantime Bill has to get better. KU frustrated Baylor and OU played them the way we need to be working on to compete against teams like Baylor. Not saying it’s an easy thing to do, but they can do better.

Hello there. You’ve seen me in many game threads and I have probably watched at least 18-19 games this season. I’ve chatted with you a few times on here so drop that assuming garbage right now.

I am only talking about when we match up with longer, physical and more athletic teams like Baylor and Texas. That’s all my comment was about because someone asked why we struggle with this type of team.

These teams force us to get out of our comfort zone and play their style. Bill over the years has had trouble scheming against it, and to say otherwise is foolish. Hell the man would probably admit it to you when you listen to him talk in pre-game pressers and post-game pressers.

This team is one of the best to ever come through here, and nowhere did I knock them. They have a kryptonite just like all but maybe 3-4 teams in women’s college basketball. They have the ability to go deep in the NCAA Tournament, but if we want a Final Four (which a top-3 seed is exactly where your sights should be) we are going to have to solve these types of teams. They are great shooters, and that is this team’s strength. With teams like Baylor, we have to get creative on working the ball inside out to open up those shots and then yes hit them. We didn’t do that tonight and the open ones we had we missed. Is what it is.

I know you do your massive write ups (which I love by the way) but you aren’t the czar around here who gets to decide who a good fan is. Shame on you for trying to put me in a group who casually watches this program. I went to more women’s games when I was a student there then men’s games. I probably watch equal amounts of the men and women now that I moved away. So spare me on that drivel.

It is never dumb to point out crappy calls, even when don't impact the outcome of the game. Ashley J. deserved better than that *

Diew for one should not be shooting 3's - just because she's "open" does not mean it's a good look...

Shorter of the two females, short hair. She called the foul on Ashley when Smith stepped on Ashley's foot in the first half and called the foul to take Ashley out of the game in the fourth quarter.

I have absolutely no problem with how a game is called as long as it's consistent. If you wanna call it tight fine. If you wanna let them play fine, but if you are gonna call that ticky tack sh@t on Ashley and lexi then you just can't let them ride Emily down the floor every time we have the ball. We probably had 10 more fouls than Baylor last night and that just doesn't make sense the way they play defense and force their way through every screen we set.

Was it Kane was who was absolutely freight trained at mid-court setting a screen? No call!

To me it's almost like college football. You can have a really good team that wins alot of games against other good teams while also recognizing there are certain teams that are just in a whole different realm. We are good, but when a team with that size and athleticism is "on", we aren't beating them. It's really just that simple.

If Ashley doesn’t return, I wonder if Bill will change his offense. I don’t see anyone returning that can keep trying to score down low while getting hammered every time and no fouls called

LOL Bill has played the same style of ball his entire stretch at Iowa State. What you saw this year is Iowa States ceiling. Bill just hasn't been able to recruit the post and that's what this team needs. Anyone who has good size will eat Iowa State alive because they can guard the paint without double teaming which leads to our offense getting extended well past the three point line.

Latest one has us in the same bracket with #1 South Carolina.
The final top 16 seeds reveal at halftime had us as #2 in the bracket with NC State. I haven't paid attention to previous reveals other than we are in the top 16. Last night had 4 Big 12 and 4 Big 10 with Iowa and Indiana. I was surprised to see Indiana there. The next two weeks will be interesting to see you helps their resume and who doesn't.

This may not be a popular take but I thought the game was pretty fairly officiated and Ashley benefited from several iffy foul calls in the post on Baylor. They did a nice job playing her straight up and there were many occasions she seemed to be the one initiating the contacting.

The only egregious one I can think of was that girl tripping and falling and they called it on Ashley. But otherwise I thought the officiating was pretty fair.

I'll disagree with this. It WAS Baylor. And there weren't a bunch of open shots. ISU missed shots because of the defense and because they couldn't get into the lane off the dribble. Baylor athletes were bigger, taller, quicker. That's just reality.

Takes nothing away from what has been a great season for them. Sometimes it's hard to admit that the team has a ceiling. And that ceiling is whenever they run into a team like this. Hopefully it is at least the Sweet 16 or later.

Pretty much every one of Ashley's 3s were short because she had less separation on her step-back and had to put more arch to get it over Baylor's defenders.
