Snacks, candy, food etc:

There were 2 different kinds of hard candy at Fleet farm, I really wish were still available.

One was a clearish (multi color) oval with a sort of dent in the middle, that was assorted flavors, similar to jolly ranchers.
The other was also oval, but were not clear, and no dent, and had many flavors like mint, strawberry, chocolate, chocolat mint, spearmint, etc, You can still find the strawberry bon bon like things that are similar but the originals I am talking about are different as they didnt have a soft filling etc.

So that is 1 and 2.

3. Snapple lemonade and pink lemonade, I think they are still made and available some areas but not in Iowa.
4. Pudding Pops
5. Kick Soda (and Jolt, but I heard that might be coming back)
6. Bonkers Candy
7. Hostess Pies
8. Lifesavers Holes (and the original lifesaver Holiday books with all the unique flavors unlike the ones today)
9. Tart N Tinys (although I think they are still made by someone)
10. Brachs Pick and Mix, assorted bulk candy.
11. Freshen up and other liquid center gum.

Restaurants

1. Ruttles
2. DaVincis
3. Borderline Pizza (if you know you know)
4. Gumbys Pizza (Some still around, I know just not around me)

Alcohol:
1. Purple Passion
2. wine coolers, LOL, I mean I used to like having one at my moms on occasion.
3. After Shock and Avalanche
4. Zima, (it was gross but its nostalgic)
5. Bacardi 151
6. Schmidt beer, the OG in the wildlife cans (not Schmidts)
7. Meister Brau, absolutely gross, but also brings back memories, same with HyVee Regal beer.
8. MD 20/20, although I think its still made but not as easy to find.
9. Boones Farm, also not one I drank much, but brings back memories.
10. Fire Water, not sure if this is still available anywhere.
11. Red Dog beer, though might be limitedly available.

There are probably a lot of others, that I either didnt know are now gone or just not on the top of my head. I know I am missing a few.

Sizzlin Sam’s

When I was a kid in the 80’s , on the way home from ISU football games, the old 2pm kickoff days every Saturday.

A lot of times we would stop at Sizzlin Sam’s in Newton.

Probably wasn’t as good as I remember, but for a fast food burger place, it was pretty good!

The Reedburger from Reed's Ice Cream. I grew up in Beaverdale, but they had locations all across Des Moines throughout the years, and the quality never wavered from store to store. While I love a classic Maid Rite, the Reedburger blows it away (fight me, I'll die on that hill of deliciousness). The hamburger meat was seasoned and bound together with what I believe was some kind of broth or soup, came with or without cheese, served on a seedless small or large Wonder hamburger bun and was steamed in a Freshomatic pump steamer. I've been searching for years for the recipe, it was invented by three old ladies from the east side who died off in the 80s I believe, and I'm afraid the recipe may have died with them. Internet searches have not yielded anything, my only hope is that there's an ex employee that can enlighten me. I would seriously entertain bringing it back via food truck or other culinary investment venture. It was that good.

Sorry for not including 4 more items as the thread asks, but this one item is worth 5 IMO.

Apparently an easy Google search shows the owner of Sizzlin Sam’s closed down and started the B-Bops

I was also obsessed with this line of beverages when I was challenged to go a year without drinking pop by my Dad. Looking back, I'm sure these were soooo much healthier lol

They probably still exist but more KFC/Taco Bell combined restaurants. It's weird but a cheesy gordita crunch with a side of mashed potatoes hits.

My frosh year at isu was when Pizza Hut had their Triple Decker pizza. Holy Moses it was good.

Is Gumby’s still in Ames? Pokey sticks and pepperoni rolls were the bomb. Pizza was crap.

Home team pizza too lol
This. As far as restaurant food, I was automatically going to say DaVincis cheese steaks and Gumby’s pokey sticks.

Snack food, I don’t have much but I’d be freaking devastated if those flat pretzels with garlic Parmesan or Stacy’s pita chips went away.

Hey now I worked there for 5 years. Still to this day haven't found a pizza that topped their formaggio pizza! Also the creamy italian dressing is something I miss. Otherwise yeah lot of of the pizza was meh.

And the Pokey Sticks were still incredible. Went out of business either fall 2007 or spring 2008. Smotherella sticks were at least a solid replacement.

The Pizza Hut P'zones from about 2005-2008 were phenomenal. We got them constantly because you could get filled up for $5.35. They were a shell of themselves when they brought them back 5 or so years ago.
Gumby's was there my entire freshman year of 07-08, so it had to have been after classes ended in 08.
