Chi chis is coming back this year!+1 for DaVinci's and Gumby's Pokey Stix. Both were delicious. Same with the Pizzeria chips too mentioned
How about Chi Chi's Mexican restaurants? Probably have to be at least in your 40's to remember them. Not sure when the one in West Des Moines closed but was probably sometime in the 90's but remember that being one my favorite places to eat when we made a trip to Des Moines.
Wasn't there a place once in North Grand Mall in Ames called Cactus Bob's maybe that was a decent Mexican restaurant? I remember something similar to that name I think in the late 90's.
Chinese Homestyle Cooking had the best Chinese food in Ames. Wish I had made 1 last trip there before they went out of business.
2nd best. Cocost was the GOAT Chinese restaurant in Ames.+1 for DaVinci's and Gumby's Pokey Stix. Both were delicious. Same with the Pizzeria chips too mentioned

The Mandarin was a great place for taking out a college date in Ames back in the day. Great food. I remember Little Taipei as well and went there quite a bit.I had some good cheap Chinese at Little Taipei and some good stuff at the Mandarin.
And the Pokey Sticks were still incredible. Went out of business either fall 2007 or spring 2008. Smotherella sticks were at least a solid replacement.Gumbys used their bathroom floor as a storage space for their pizza pans and utensils.
My wife’s favorite was the Mandarin if we went for Chinese when she came to town. Couldn’t beat Cocost for a quick run for food with the guys on your floor. We went there about once a week most of freshman year and all thought it was named Cocos because the T was missing on the sign above the door.I had some good cheap Chinese at Little Taipei and some good stuff at the Mandarin.
That one I don't recall. The Mandarin was a great place for taking out a college date in Ames back in the day. Great food. I remember Little Taipei as well and went there quite a bit.
What was the name of that Chinese restaurant upstairs of what was Tazzles back in those days?
