I want a two-back, under-center, straight-ahead in that situation, even if the defense knows it's coming (because we don't use that formation in most situations).
If it gets stuffed, you can punt. If it goes for even a half-yard, consider going for it on 4th.
Either way, it burns clock and you have a choice to attempt the risk of the 2-for-1yard.
Eventually, you can use that approach and run a play-action in a similar situation.

One of the only times I've agreed with you today. If we convert that, he is a genius. We didn't, so it is "not a good call". Players have to make plays and we didn't.
2nd half passing stats were 11 completions out of 20 attempts. Choosing to throw the ball simply doesn't guarantee a first down or even a completion for that matter.
I have seen this forever at ISU. NO way Richardson has the cahones to check out of that called run and I blame CPR and Mangino for the weak call. playing not to lose poorly....ISU football since 1981. Get a first and we win. Not an awful call but it didn't work the first 2 times, my only real beef with it was not having Nealy or a bigger guy get the ball
How hard is it to line up under center and do a QB sneak? I mean really its simple and it works 95% of the time.
This, why can't we line up under center and try the sneak in these situations?
That explains the first couple short yardage failures, but not that one.
Khal could tell us, but it feels like we have a better success rate on 3rd and 3+ yards than 3rd and short.
We really don't have the size we need in the backfield for third and short (or we need hellacious blocking for it).

My buddy said this right before the snap. I wish we had a big bruiser in there in that situation. Thought it would have been a good time to use Standard.
It seems we dont have a 3rd and 1 play, because the two we ran were obvious and bad. Also, lining up in shotgun on 3rd/4th and short drives me ******* nuts.
