Perryman was improving while Kysen was out and seems to have put on some lbs . Performance in the room and under the lights can be 2 different things . Let all of them duke it out and best man goes
I don't always agree with this, I think you have to evaluate everyone individually. Just because the loud crowd says "best man goes" - would Cael have been Cael if he had to wrestle as a true freshman? I don't think it helped Casey at all and we ended up losing him to the portal. He needed time to develop and work on mat wrestling. He could've developed into a nice 149 had he taken a year. Not every kid is the same, not every situation is the same. Castillo is a size/physicality reason. We will find out though.Let the best guy go.
My opinion isn't based on the fact that I think he's behind, I just think he can be a 4x AA if he develops a little physically over the next year that's all.If Perryman makes a jump sure, but my understanding is Castillo was already handling all of our 125 pounders last year as a high schooler. Absolutely no reason to let him sit a year if that's the case.
This is a total different time with the transfer portal. Will never feel comfortable that we can keep multiple top level guys for 4-5 years under the current environment. This doesn’t even take into consideration of injuries and Olympic RS.I don't always agree with this, I think you have to evaluate everyone individually. So do the coaches and that is why he will be wrestling the coming year. Obviously, if he struggles or gets injured they will probably shut him down after his 5 matches. My opinion isn't based on the fact that I think he's behind, I just think he can be a 4x AA if he develops a little physically over the next year that's all.
not sure how any school can have any confidence in an athlete staying for 4/5 yearsThis is a total different time with the transfer portal. I've always been of the belief you should get 1 free transfer as an undergrad, and then if you graduate from your school you can have the grad transfer as a reward for getting your degree. Multiple transfers as an undergrad without having to sit does not sit well with me, but it is todays worldnot sure how any school can have any confidence in an athlete staying for 4/5 years
hence my post earlier today "the transferring is out of control"
athletes should get one trip to portal
2nd trip you need to sit a season
Unless you’re saying we lost Casey because we didn’t redshirt him I don’t see how this helps your argument. Casey was our best option his freshman year even though he wasn’t ready, and using a year of eligibility for that is of no concern to us now. This exact scenario is why Castillo should be used (assuming he wins the spot).I don't always agree with this, I think you have to evaluate everyone individually. guessing all the transfers they brought inI wonder what went on there to make this happen?
Simple development logic. He redshirts, he figures out top bottom and gets better, he is a stud his redshirt freshman year and buys into the coaching staff and wants to be a national champ here after placing high as a freshman. It’s not that hard to figure out. He left because he struggled to develop on bottom and was getting beat and didn’t reach his goals here and will be in a battle to make the starting spot. Redshirting would’ve helped his wrestling skills catch up with his confidence/arrogance coming into collegeUnless you’re saying we lost Casey because we didn’t redshirt him I don’t see how this helps your argument. I just disagree with your whole take on the situation. I would argue that wrestling a full season is at least as effective at developing skills as redshirting is, likely more. You don’t have to agree, every kid is different and every situation is different. Wrestling in competition all the time can be useful for certain aspects of it. Casey just got better at hand fighting and doing what he does best. He didn’t improve on his weaknesses which is where bringing him along slower would’ve helped, I think.
