This isn’t a direct knock on Swid, but if a team has seemingly unlimited NIL and is need of a 149, there are a number of other kids out there they’d take a run at.
This is very true, but also probably easier to recruit one that has 2-3 other AA caliber wrestlers around the same weight class on the same team.

Not to steal @buf87's thunder, but the roster for next year is 30 guys. People are going to come and people are going to go. And people that want the opportunity to be part of ISU wrestling are going to be squeezed out because of the NCAA.

The team is going to be okay. The coaches may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night. They are always working. Enjoy the ride, it's going to be fun.

When you think about Ryan’s, comment you can assume with a roster of rent there will be six or eight freshman and a few transfers leaving only about 20 spots for guys currently on the roster. That means over half the team from this year could be gone. I hope we’re able to retain our best two deep and build from there whoever the coaching staff feels that is.

Most of the top programs have recruiting classes that are bringing in 5-8 top 100 kids, while ISU is bringing in 1. So the irony is that we would actually have roster spots for transfers rather than the other way around.

I don't like that you didn't shoot the Swid rumor down immediately.

What’s going to put a sour taste in my mouth is paniro going 1-2 at ncaas and then Casey transferring. If paniro AAs it’ll basically be his spot for the next two years and we’ll all be fine. I would miss Casey because I love his wrestling style though. A lot riding on this tourney

I see casey as a must keep guy. leader, and an all american as a true sophmore in a very tough weight class. those are the guys you dont wanna let go of logjam or not.
I agree, but the question is at what price. Is he worth to us what OSU will be able to pay? Probably be better business to let him go and use that money at a need weight.

Especially considering we can plug AE at 49 who is better than Casey.

For one year and then what? If your building a team and a culture and this kid is the next leader in the wings it hurts more and the loss is felt for more than one year…if this IS the reality I’d say you keep Swid at an almost “all cost scenario”, what would coaches do allow him to pick his weight and encourage someone else to look elsewhere to alleviate the logjam?

In this hypothetical, what if Casey can’t beat Paniro, Ech, or Chittum in the room? Do you still pay him whatever he wants, tell him to go whatever weight he wants, and bend over backwards for him?

The questionable heresay that was passed on from a friend's brother who bumped into a drunk swiderski at the bars was this: swiderski said both him and chittum were planning to transfer to OSU. This was back in January.

I think it is much more unlikely than not, but the possibility of it has bothered me since hearing it. That would be devastating.

Is he? One is an AA and one isn’t. I hope that changed this weekend though. Team Paniro to the podium.

Not exactly sure.
We do have a 43 man roster that has to go to 30 or guys train with CRTC. Makes sense that they needed to move on with the medical redshirts that occurred & new recruits coming in & room for some transfers
How many top 20 teams downs have at least 30 on their rosters already?

That’s definitely a caveat that has to be factored in IF indeed it is a reality. My presumption would be that if there are one or 2 wrestlers in this logjam entertaining suitors and if I determined Casey was “the guy” that bests suits the team and direction going forward then maybe you pull out all the stops and encourage another to leave and keep Casey…I mean if we are at risk of losing guys to the portal this will inevitably have to start happening where some guys are encouraged to move on if the the TEAM well being is at risk, combined with the fewer numbers rosters will be able to carry…do I like it no, is this a fall out of turning it into a business, yes…just my .02, hope we don’t have to worry about it in the near future

I feel like this is where I draw the line on some of this "team leader" stuff. Yes having a team leader/leaders is important, no i don't think it outweighs "being the better wrestler" in so far as who we want to have at a weight. This isn't even a comment on Casey vs anyone specifically, but we can't be just giving spots out purely for intangible reasons and telling other guys to vacate for Casey, especially given his injury history.

I believe AE could still have 2 years. So you’re saying that even if AE is a better wrestler than Casey, we should just give Casey the spot for the next two years? Not sure how that helps the culture.
