Since people are ripping off big 100m times, I decided to check on our two cornerback signees, David Coffey and Khijohnn Cummings Coleman. So far this year they’re logged as having run personal best times of 10.93 and 10.94 100m respectively.

The coaches consider a sub-11.0 100m the gold standard, and in all of my years following Cyclone recruiting, I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen two CB’s in the same signing class who managed that accomplishment.

And that’s not including the wideouts or Van Dinter.

Both still have their state meets to come over the next couple of weekends. I’ll try to get back to this in a few weeks when track seasons are complete and various websites are updated.

David Coffey qualifies for the Finals at the Illinois State Track Meet.

Nice time, but looks like it’s wind aided. One more to go!

I dug through the State Meet finals results. David finished 8th with a 10.86 100m—and since it wasn’t wind aided, looks like his personal best. Nice finish!

Khijohnn Cummings-Coleman and the Minnesota State Meet next weekend.

Edit: I stand corrected. Looks like David ran a personal best 10.75 100m earlier.

Iirc, he had the best 55m time in Illinois in ‘23. In ‘24, it’s the 60.

Going into the Minnesota State Meet next weekend, Khijohnn Cummings-Coleman now has a personal best 10.71 100m, and a 21.96 200m.

We have some FAST players in this class!

Overby reminds me of Darien Porter.

I can’t really disagree. Compare their two track bios side by side. only…Overby is actually faster than the athletic freak that Porter is.

The differences? Overby does field events (decathlete?), played in a passing offense, caught about twice as many passes in HS, and…(presumably, at least) has fairly decent hands.

Still not going to count on him playing a lot as a true frosh.
